Mateusz Masternak achieved another victory at Saturday's Knockout Boxing Night 17. The Pole defeated Felipe Nsue by knockout in the third round. The fighter from Equatorial Guinea was transported by helicopter to the hospital in Olsztyn after the fight.
The duel against Nsue wasn't the most difficult challenge in Masternak's career. The Pole dominated from the first gong. It was only a matter of time before the fight was over. The "Master" caught his opponent in the third round, sending him to the canvas.
Unfortunately, the Guinean did not recover after the fight was over. Immediate action was needed. Nsue was hospitalized in Olsztyn, and the first tests showed a hematoma of the brain.
"Currently, his condition is serious, but stable and he has regained consciousness. Before the fight, all examinations, including head resonance, were fine" - Masternak wrote on Facebook.

To be fair, Nsue is better than his record suggests, he was scheduled to fight Balski on the same card but Balski is injuried, while Masternak's original opponent from Iran didn't get the visa, so ultimately Masternak fought Nsue just to not to cancel this event.

His condition is not life threatening they say, it's serious but stable. He got proper help very quickly, good to know that promoters here apparently care to provide it to the fighters (not like in Abdusalamov's situation).

Good news is that Nsue is conscious. Hopefully he will be ok.

came into this with 4 wins in 6 fights, never fought anyone worth a damn, facing a guy with like 50 fights who is super experienced and close to top 10 in the world.....

Yes it was a mismatch, no doubt. But still better than when experienced HW's or prospects with 15 or 20 fights fight 7-39-2 type opponent.

Thankfully most top boxers are aware of these risks and will go a little 'easier' on these journeymen.
Sometimes the journeymen themselves
are experienced enough to stay down when they go down.
Of course head injuries can happen to anyone, as Gerald McClennan and Michael Watson both suffered against Benn and Eubank.
But then they were both exceptionally tough fights and it would have been difficult for the referee to have stopped either of them any earlier.
Knowing when to stop a fight is possibly the hardest part of any referees job.
The second line of defence is the boxers own corner, but that doesn't always play out well as Mark Breland found out.

the first line of defense is being more strict when it comes to sanctioning fights
for example, scummy canadian group yvon michele, bringing in a teenage girl who had been hospitalized after her previous fight. disgusting

I don't know more than that he is still in hospital in Poland and that his condition ''improved significantly''.
