"David Haye set for a 'very big fight' after Joe Fournier comeback against a mystery heavyweight – but who is it?"

David Haye insists his return to the ring on Saturday "is not a comeback" but now promoter Ryan Kavanaugh has told Sky Sports that talks have started for The Hayemaker's next fight against someone whose resume is "the highest of the high".

David Haye has a fight against a secret heavyweight legend teed up after his comeback against Joe Fournier, says promoter Ryan Kavanaugh.

Haye, aged 40, ends his retirement to take on Fournier on Saturday night, alongside Evander Holyfield's return against Vitor Belfort.

"It's not a comeback," Haye previously said to Sky Sports, who have now been told of secretive talks to pair him with an exciting rival in a future fight.

"If he wins? All I can say without giving too much away is that you should expect a very big fight," Triller promoter Kavanaugh told Sky Sports.

Haye has already vowed "not to make any decisions when the adrenaline is flowing after you've just beaten someone I'm a 100-1 favourite to beat".

He said about another fight: "I don't see that happening at all."

And he promised not to accept a second fight in the heat of the moment: "Definitely don't make any decisions right there."

But the crucial decisions may have already been made.

Who is this mystery heavyweight that Haye is in talks to face?

"I couldn't tell you who it is," Kavanaugh teased.

Is it a British or American fighter?

"Both are on deck."

Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield or Lennox Lewis?

"It may be."

Is it an old rival from Ukraine?

"No."

Is it a boxing great or someone from the world of entertainment?

"The highest of the high."

So that means a former world heavyweight champion?

"If that is what you consider the highest of the high? You wouldn't be wrong."

Sky Sports asked Haye about facing Tyson who, then 54, made a comeback last year in an exhibition bout with Roy Jones Jr.

"I don't want to start thinking about stuff like that," Haye said.

"Let me just get Joe [Fournier] out of the way. I need to go back on holiday!"

But Kavanaugh has insisted "it will be The Hayemaker that you know" inside the ring on Saturday.

Haye's opponent Fournier is undefeated in nine fights as a light-heavyweight.

Thoughts? :-?

My thoughts are that he is saying he hasn't got anyone lined up at all.

He can't tell us who it is (because he doesn't know), could be British or American, (which means it isn't anyone specific, as yet) and you wouldn't be wrong in believing that a former world heavyweight champion is the highest of the high (note, he is not saying you wouldn't be wrong in believing Haye is fighting a former world heavyweight champion, it is carefully phrased).

You very well could be right. And you probably are.

Alternatively though, Haye could be facing one of the former pros working the same card (i.e. another fighter either competing or commentating), with things dependent on tesults.

Perhaps a fake post-fight scuffle or call out, because Triller are trash like that?

This isn't boxing. It's as far from boxing as it gets. David Haye is a disabled person, that was obvious in his last fight. To have a disabled person fight a retirementhome guy.... its not boxing.

No, I am right.

What he is saying is that nobody is lined up at the moment. All his words mean that,.

This doesn't mean he doesn't hope Haye fights someone else, and it doesn't mean Haye won't fight a former world champion. But I can positively guarantee you, just from the words he has used, that he has nobody specific in mind right now as anything other than a vague aspiration. Therefore speculation is pointless.

Shannon Briggs = Two-time WBO world titleholder, the lineal world champion, faced two legendary Hall-of-Famers and beat one of them.

There’s far worse opponents Haye could face in a novelty veteran circus event.

Surely better to fight Larry Holmes, he's an ATG, Briggs isn't. ;-)
