I know its been discussed on another thread but I have recieved an e-mail from a US friend who saw the fight last night and said Wayne was more than competitive, the fight was very close. He scored it Larios by 2.

He gave the edge to McCullough over the first half, the second half though Larios' youth edged him clear.

It was a fight of the year contendor, so perhaps even in his 5 consecutive world title loss, perhaps Wayne can realistically dream of securing a second title later.

I said (and so did many) that any loss would signal curtains for Wayne at this level, perhaps not.

Well done wayne, you've made an ass of me, and I'm glad to admit it. It looks like he has more left in the tank than we thought. Perhaps this losing effort can get him a shot at someone else. He's obviously still got the goods at SB, though not featherweight.

Yep totally wrong here too, i predicted Wayne to get stopped. Managed to go without seeing the score for ages and then it crept up on me in the Express and Star of all places, bloody Richard Lakin Will still be viewing on BBC N.I. tonight though even though it is only highlights.

In boxing news it said you can see it on sky digital too. Is this still BBC NI ? I cant seem to find it so could anyone tell me what sky digital channel its on?

McCullogh will never be stopped, you can beat him but you'll never stop him. Hit the guy with a sledgehammer in between rounds and he'll still finish the fight.

It's in the 900's, on at around 11.30.

Whilst, I think the right man has gone home with the title, I actually think McCullough won the fight.

I gave him everything of the first 6 rounds that was shown.

I gave Larios from 7-11, but Wayne edge the 12.

The reason why I say the right man retained because Larios won his rounds bigger.

I assume Wayne won the 3rd (most people say he did - apart from the judges). There Wayne won the fight on a rounds by rounds basis. As Jim Watt said though about Polo - sometimes you've got to look at the fight as a whole and on that basis they have got the decision right - but those Judges stank, no more the 2 rounds either way IMO.

Tremendous performance by Wayne, he is not a shot fighter. That was as good as his effort vs Morales.

Larios would get such a beating from Guzman. He probably won't make that fight now in April, lucky for him. What was Jim Neily smoking in that 11th round. He goes "the ref might step in, Waynes not throwing anything back". A couple of seconds earlier he threw a 6 punch combo. I think Neily doesn't like commentating boxing and wants the fights over quick so he can get the hell out of there.

One thing I did notice on the commentary and I thought of Bennie's thread a few weeks ago.

Jim said "Oh its a pity Wayne didn't posess the punch of a Barry McGuigan (slight pause).... or indeed Dave Boy McAuley". I would have love to have seen Neilly's face when he looked over to Dave after making that initial remark.

Dave (if memory serves me) wasn't a particularly huge puncher.

I thought the opposite mate, only two rounds were cut which was even more infuriating. I mean why cut two fornicating rounds? Can't they just extend the programme by 5 or 10 minutes? What was on next anyway the bloody skiing weather report or something? How petty can you get.

Anyway back to the fight...great fight but the scoring was awful, 9 points? McCullough was well into the fight right up until the end, they showed Sean O'Grady's (never heard of him) scorecard a couple of times and if they followed to form i think he had the fight a draw if my calculations are correct? Fair play to Wayne i expected him to get stopped but he was more than competetive. Where he goes from here though i really don't know.

Sean O Grady was a former world Lightweight champ back in the eighties. Perhaps we know him better as a guy who lost to Jim Watt in a famous blood bath of a fight when Jim was champ.

As for Wayne, I think it is contary to before - Wayne is now in a better position than he was. There are lots of people who scored the fight close and even those who scored it heavily to Larios said the rounds were difficult to score.

Interestingly, I posed a question on a US forum (a good one) about whether Wayne can win a world title. Alot infact tipped him should Larios and Guzman fail to happen and somehow Wayne get the rematch - Not out of the equation considering the words "Fight of the year" are already being mentioned.

However, unfortunately, it was only Larios they tipped him to beat - I thought this was odd because I always thought Larios and Guzman were the top two in the devision. Apparently not, the other champs are excellent.

I don't like fighters going on to long, but I don't want Wayne to retire just yet. It was an excellent performance and I'm a believer that he can do it.

The fight is shown on Eurosport tomorrow from 21.00 to 22.30 CET
