It was Denny Moyer; I had heard that one before.
He was 4-0 when the opponent was named Joe.
What common opponents did he have with Emile Griffith?

Hank was toast, ray got him the payday. I think the biggest secret about srr was the torture he put his wife through.

I remember reading in a magazine in the early 1980's that his former wife Edna Mae Holly was going to publish a book about their lives together, but I don't think it ever was published.
I think the orginal manuscript for it she wrote in 1958 and it was going to be made into a movie then.
the manuscript just lanqished for 30 years and she was going to up-date it until their divorce in 1962 at least.
BTW Did you know that Edma Mae Holly was on the cover of the first JET magazine in 1951 ?
( wearing a 10,000 dollar mink coat)

when he was 11 he lived just a couple of blocks away from where Joe Louis ( then Joseph Barrow) lived in Detroit
and used to wait outside his house to carry his gym bag to the Brewster Gym
where he was also a member.
Joe Louis used to call him "junior".
also Walker Smith's older sister Maria was in the same HS class as Joe Louis.
in 1932 Robinson's family moved to Harlem NYC.
what are the odds ?

also Sugar Ray Robinson use to drink a 'tall glass of Beef Blood" every day up until the end.
he got that advice early in his career from Jack Blackburn himself when he helped train him when he joined
Joe Louis's camp when Louis was training to fight Red Burman in 1941 .

well what year did Monzon fight him ?
Im guessing Sugar Ray Robinson fought this person late in his career after 1960
and Monzon fought this person early in his pro career in mid 1960's ?

Sugar Ray was notorious for threatening to pull out on the week of the fight unless he was given even more money...
He did that multiple times (but only in non-title bouts as I understand)

Terry Downes told him (after defeating him) that he would "always be The Champ in my eyes".
Years afterward, while doing the dinner circuit - Downes used to say;
"I fought a man called Ray Robinson... But I never fought the real Sugar Ray"
