Are you a citizen now?
Same as Peru except you don't go to the police, you go to immigration and naturalisation.
My dad is going to renew his British passport next week, he is going to Max Spielmann![]()
I've got permanent residence which pretty much gives me the rights of citizenshipyour Spanish must be pretty on point these days, they only need A2 ability which you should piss in your sleep, surely?

A mate of mine has lived in Spain for 12 years. Can speak about 4 words of Spanish.Coco wrote: ↑20 Aug 2023, 16:15Yeah there is nothing difficult to do, just pain in the ass stuffFray Bentos wrote: ↑20 Aug 2023, 16:10I think you should! He has his own company, employs a dozen or so people - from England, Europe and America, so doesn't speak Spanish at work.
He's married to a German lass who is has lived there about 5 years. She's fluent so does everything for him.
I'm not very good at languages, but can't imagine doing that.
How long did it take you to learn, Coco?

Is 6 threads a new low? Certainly feels like it.

I was first here in 2006, used the house more like a holiday home, and for example didn't visit at one point for a couple of years, and a couple of times like once a year.Lenny Cravats wrote: ↑20 Aug 2023, 16:52A mate of mine has lived in Spain for 12 years. However in those first 7 years, while not there a lot, picked up the basics and had a base.
Then in 2014 I moved here permanently, got a job teaching English, so didn't pick up much at work!
So did my learning in the pub, met the missus in 2016, always speak Spanish with her, but the reality is it's still littered with mistakes and it should be much better, but I've never had a lesson and she never corrects me.
So it's been a slow, gradual purpose but for the last 7 or 8 years I can get anything I need done, doctors, call centres, whatever.
Best place to learn in is to live there and use it a lot, if people understand you, job done!
Re: Brexiteers were right, Remoaners were wrong again!
If you live on an urbanisation with loads of ex pats, you won't need to speak a word.
Our house is in a very rural town so we have to make an effort, which isn't easy for me, my wife is much better.
We get on by politely explaining (using google) that we don't speak much Spanish, but we're learning, and they're perfectly charming, especially if you make the effort. If you speak a bit louder in English and point at sh*t, like I did when we first moved there, they f*ck you off quick-smart.

The 'Not for EU' label is being introduced by Asda, hopefully we can keep more of our own superior products and keep the rubbish EU products out : https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-66588975

Some folk arrogantly speak English in foreign countries with the expectation that every orange picker will understand them, while looking down on them if they don't get it!
These folk tend to be ignored or ripped off

Do you understand the old Englishy lingo, Pedro? The EU have been ripping us off and their poorer nations for ages, same products, inferior ingredients for some countries. https://www.politico.eu/article/a-snack ... countries/Coco wrote: ↑23 Aug 2023, 11:26I found by making the effort, people make the effort with you.vidal wrote: ↑21 Aug 2023, 03:49 If you live on an urbanisation with loads of ex pats, you won't need to speak a word.

Tenuous, even for you...
Re: Brexiteers were right, Remoaners were wrong again!
It happens, although less now than at the time of that article in 2016. My point was that the article had absolutely nothing to do with what was being discussed...

From my own experience, food is a fraction of the price in Spain compared to the UK.IRONFIST wrote: ↑24 Aug 2023, 08:11Do you understand the old Englishy lingo, Pedro? I imagine food prices have fallen like a stone since the UK left the EU.....

Not for cheese in Spain, and UK prices are 7% cheaper than the EU average https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-65833619Coco wrote: ↑24 Aug 2023, 11:55From my own experience, food is a fraction of the price in Spain compared to the UK.IRONFIST wrote: ↑24 Aug 2023, 08:11Do you understand the old Englishy lingo, Pedro? I like the way that article specifically states “Brexit hasn’t helped”

Re: Brexiteers were right, Remoaners were wrong again!
It's the biased BBC what do you expect, fact remains on the pricing though, plus with our CPTPP membership, watch the prices drop further unless the Blob stifle that aswell.Boxerbeetle wrote: ↑30 Aug 2023, 06:26 I like the way that article specifically states “Brexit hasn’t helped”![]()
Re: Brexiteers were right, Remoaners were wrong again!
BBC finds no bias in Question Time Brexiteer only audience https://www.thenational.scot/news/23759 ... it-voters/ Calls for remainer only audience rejected, as we know they have that every other week anyway.
Re: Brexiteers were right, Remoaners were wrong again!
Did you watch it? Only 70% said they'd vote for Brexit again.
