Gervonta Davis vs Rolly Romero

Showtime PPV on Sunday December 5th.
Tank/Barrios did c.200k buys. Does that really warrant carrying on on PPV? I think they’d genuinely be better off making the show free to air and building him up a little more.

This is a terrible terrible excuse for a PPV.... be a good free fight for some mainstream tank exposure. I imagine its at 135 which is the only good news, thats the division i want tank to settle into.
That was more than a gift vs Marinez.... rolly arguably lost every round from 2-12... Interestingly the guy that dominated rolly and got robbed then went on to get Knocked out by Commy. Rolly is a decent tune up for a top guy, thats it, whats tank needing tune ups for?

Yeah he did. I randomly saw him live in Vegas at a small at Sam’s town when I was there for my stag - always kept an eye on him since. I don’t hate the fight - just hate that they’re charging $65 or so for it.

They said after the Barrios fight that they’ll keep things in house. That’s exactly what they’ve done unfortunately.

Nothing says "striving for greatness" quite like fighting your sparring partners.

What’s the number of buys though for him not to be PPV in his subsequent fight? 200k buys isn’t much at all once you consider the amount of money the network will spend on advertising.
The Charlos did 100k buys and have seemingly come off PPV for now.
Hopefully enough people see sense at stay clear of the PPV.

PPV has a place. But when your still on the up, if you can make 6 million for a ppv, or 5 million for a free show, if its a fight your gunna get an easy KO win in, take the 5 million, and a hord of casual fans.
People start doing PPV the second it makes them money, and as a result only a couple of hundred thousand people in the world know who they are.

I think 150,000 is considered a success. They charge the Americans so much for these.
Davis is such a scam. Usually a fighter earns PPV status. This guy is so carefully puffed up it is almost commendable how they have done it.

Is it just me, or is Davis' career turning into a dud?
He's a cracking fighter, but he doesn't seem to be getting any big fights.

Yeah, I have to say, I've rather fallen out of love with the sport. It's just such a dissapointment. So few really great fights, far too many fighters just longing out their careers, avoiding their top competition.
I remember saying a few weeks back, that I thought Fury v Joshua would never happen, I didn't really think Usyk would be the man to derail it, but it's typical of what happens these days, fighters put off fighting their biggest name opponents, to save it up for a gigantic payday, often when both men are already past their best, and in many cases one or both men end up losing to someone else which then derails the fight, or takes the lustre of it.
Fury and Joshua should have happened years ago. Too much talk, blather and bullshit.

to me it started to seem inevitable (it not happening) at least a year back

The warning signs were there, Joshua having already lost, Fury's inactivity, all the shennanigans back and forth.
They may end up fighting, but if they do, it will be a cash out fight for both men.
I suspect though that Joshua will lose again to Usyk, and from there he won't really have much of a career, he's definitely not the fighter he was, too gunshy now, I won't be surprised if Usyk gives him a royal kicking in the rematch and stops him.

It's a poor fight especially for PPV. I kind of like Rolly though from the interviews with him I came across.
Rolly isn't ranked top 10 by Boxrec, TBRB or Ring. With them both TMT it was gonna happen. But after this fight, who does PBC have at Lightweight? None of the big names are with them.

Haney, Davis, Garcia, Diaz, Lomachenko, Lopez all need to start fighting each other and stop the nonsense.
Then throw in guys above and below like Prograis, Herring, Stevenson, Colbert, Valdez, Gutierrez, Taylor.
Plenty of big fights there for anyone that wants to create a legacy.

indeed, and plus it's just, it's boxing. put your expectations somewhere around a snake's eyes and you won't be far off

Yeah, it's actually got to the point where I'm surprised when a big fight happens.
That's why fighters like Pacquaio and Canelo are to be appreciated, look at the challenges both men took on in their career. boxing needs more fighters like this, willing to prove themselves against all comers.
And Canelo's not even done yet, probably got another 3-4 years at the top, I hope he doesn't stick around too long, and tarnish his career, because he's been exceptional.
Sure, I think he was lucky in at least one of the fights with GGG, but he still has an incredible record to date.

If only mate. Taylor is the only guy I can see taking on all comers. Davis never will.

Horrible fight. Rolly freaking sucks. The only thing he's good at is running his mouth.
