Conor Benn-Josesito Lopez in Talks
Rising undefeated welterweight, Conor Benn who signed a new multi-fight deal with Matchroom after beating Adrian Granados last month is also set to return in December.
Hearn says there have been discussions with former world title challenger, Josesito Lopez, who was beaten by then-world champion Keith Thurman in 2019.
Since that defeat, Lopez has defeated Francisco Santana and John Molina - with both wins coming inside the distance.
“We’re talking to Josesito Lopez’s team, which is a really good fight,” Hearn said of Benn’s next fight.
“I quite like the Chris Algieri fight. Chris van Heerden has been discussed and others as well.”

Same types of opponents for Benn once again..
Is he gaining experience from these guys? Maybe.. not if he’s just tryna knock em out quick.

i posted in a previous thread that i wouldnt mind lopez, but i expected guys like van heerden or algieri. seems they have an eye on all of them
lopez still has some fight left in him, he's a tough guy. algeiri is too but kinda small and already underpowered at 140. van heerden is someone with solid experience and some tricks, but also can be a spoiler and i think would fight mainly to survive. id least want to see him, need someone offering more offense - conor has had 3 fights in a row with hardly anything coming back
lopez would be my pick from those, con needs to face some more offense

I don’t mind this one. If Lopez has some ambition left then it’s a good fight.

Yeah it's a decent fight step up for Benn this.

Press Release
Matchroom Boxing will return to the M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool for another huge night of boxing on Saturday December 11 co-headlined by Undisputed Lightweight World Champion Katie Taylor and Welterweight star Conor Benn, with all of the action shown live worldwide on DAZN.
Irish sensation Taylor (19-0, 6 KOs) puts her WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO and Ring Magazine crowns one the line once again after cruising to another successful defence against the USA’s Jennifer Han at Emerald Headingley Stadium in Leeds in September.
‘The Destroyer’ (19-0, 12 KOs) maintained his perfect record with a shutout points win over Mexico’s Adrian Granados on the same bill after he was given a deafening welcome by over 20,000 Leeds fans, and the Essex native is looking to end a huge year in style as he pushes towards more titles.
"I had less than a week at home after my last fight and then it was back to the US to start training again because I wanted to get another fight as soon as possible,” said Taylor. “I'm looking forward to finishing the year on a high in Liverpool with a big performance and another successful defence of my titles."
“I’m so excited to fight in Liverpool again after fighting at the arena back in 2018,” said Benn. “I was in Liverpool earlier this month for the Liam Smith vs. Anthony Fowler show and the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. I’m expecting another banged out crowd and top atmosphere on December 11 as I look to end 2021 with a bang.”
“I’m excited to lock in another big show to close out 2021,” said Eddie Hearn, Matchroom Sport Chairman. “We are ready to go with a huge run of 10 events over 8 weeks – a run that will see us close with a Conor and Katie double header on December 11 followed by a huge Parker vs. Chisora II card the week after.
“Conor is fast becoming one of the biggest stars in the sport and Katie will have to pass one more test ahead of the historic Taylor vs. Serrano clash that we expect to see in the Spring. Full December 11 and December 18 cards will be announced this coming week and we can’t wait to bring to more stacked shows to the U.K. live on DAZN.”
“DAZN and Matchroom continue to put together an unparalleled fall boxing schedule for DAZN subscribers to enjoy worldwide,” said Ed Breeze, EVP Rights at DAZN. “With the addition of Connor Benn and Katie Taylor co-headlining a brilliant night of boxing in Liverpool on December 11, DAZN will be seeing out the year in style with six back-to-back weekends of unmissable action featuring some of the biggest names in the sport.”

Would like to see him chasing Algieri, to see if he is ready for the real top level. Lopez and Von Herdeen would be fun, though.

It's like he's not even from England.
No Euro, no Commonwealth, no British, not even an area title.
Look at all these guys-

Then ignore Brook, but still...

Why is this in Liverpool with Benn vs TBA and Taylor vs TBA?
The atmosphere was poor last time. This card could be another hard sell without a load of Scouse fighters.
I mean the Sky card in Liverpool next week is supposed to be doing very poor for tickets also. The Promoters and Broadcasters need to get their finger out or we'll be back with shows in leisure centres and hotel ballrooms before long

In Connors defence i think he has been taking the right progression. Last 3 fights have been decent measuring stick fights.
Josesito Lopez would be a massive step up, in my opinion mabey too big a step (although i think its likely they would get him at the right time, its no certainty and hindsight might answer it).
Much rather guys with 6 or 7 losses than undefeated guys with padded records, those guys tell you nothing.

What happened to the Josh Kelly fight?
Thought that was a good domestic match-up. Probably a bit too risky so they won't make it.

algieri has heart and can box, but isnt even a welter and i dont think having that type of unbalanced matchmaking is gonna really do benn much good
van heerden has some tricks, but has that survivor/negative mentality that makes me think the fight would end up like the last one where benn is just chasing a guy not wanting to engage. you can learn a certain amount from that, like how to create more openings vs someone just covering, but it doesnt prepare much for a 2 way fight
lopez, though older, is a real come to fight guy and has a decent pair of wins since the thurman loss. i really hope it's him.

Eddie hearn is playing absolute shenanigans with this card. Same date as skys piss weak (so far) pay per view.
Not only has he put connor on, one of his better draws, he has katie taylor on it, that competes nicely with sheilds and savana for any fans of female boxing...
Sky will have to put on every fighter they currently have signed (excluding AJ) to do 100k buys.

Do networks prefer to go i agaisnt another one?
Or would they rather have nothing else competing against it and take in all the viewers?

I can’t see how Sky can go PPV now. They’ve got one fight announced - a poor one with Shields and it’s 5 weeks away.

I'll be shocked and pleasantly surprised if its Lopez. He would be the first opponent of Benns that can punch.
Sure he's past his best and been quite inactive but his last fight suggests he still has some ambition. He gave Thurman hell though that was almost two years ago now.

Only 5 weeks notice at the most. Whoever it is will be only here for a pay day with little ambition.

Benn is on a mission to destroy all decent welterweight boxers from ten years ago.

The Riverside Rocky always comes to win. I think he's 37 now but he'll definitely have a go. I think it will be a fun fight, not keen on Algieri or Van Heerden.
