Fury overrated - pull your pants up

What exactly are we celebrating tonight? I don’t get it. I’ve watched the fight live and feel disappointed. An overweight, complacent Fury came close to being taken out by a limited fighter he’d beaten easily previously.

The result may have been in the balance, mainly due to Wilder’s lights out power, but a flagship for the heavyweight division? It was an embarrassment.

Heavyweights are bang average and Fury & Wilder proved once again that they are no exception. Don’t confuse drama with mediocrity.

Fury can box and fight, think and move, hit hard and roughhouse, as well as dodge punches even being 280 pounds and get up after Wilder's shots to fight back.

Overrated? Try watching tennis.

fury is a complete fighter, can win fiddling on the back foot with the jab (wlad, chis 2), can back guys up (wilder), can stand in place and outfight shorter opponents (chisora 1)

and his ability to recover fast is part of what makes him so tough to beat, he can get hurt but is right back up and always fighting back effectively almost immediately

ya he looks like a pudding, ,but hes a very good fighter, he gotta fight aj or usyk though still or i feel he's left his career incomplete. go for undisputed

Yes, Fury is a complete obliteration machine and he should prove his superiority once and for all with going undisputed.

It was a very poor quality fight. A mess actually.

Fun, though.

It was sloppy at times, and Fury’s punch technique isn’t always eye pleasing. But the guys movement, durability, boxing brain & heart are what makes a truly great elite fighter. He was nowhere near 100% either I don’t think, but he won’t say that.

Wilder was his best version. If he would’ve learnt more technique instead of squashing cans, he could’ve been great too.

Fury is currently the best, or second best of a poor era, get used to it.

Why poor? It's definitely better than the 2000s and the early 2010s. I think, it's pretty even with the 80s right now and may surpass them soon.

It was s mess imo but an honest mess between two warriors. But Tyson can box and fight,no question whereas Wilder is a brave, brawler/puncher. Also,Wilder ran out of gas due to his muscle bound physique

So after watching a brilliant fight, someone’s first reaction is to come onto Boxrec and slag off both participants? Must be fun at parties

My old man is a good casual. Watches all the big fights but not much else. Described last nights fight as the most he’s enjoyed a fight since the 80s. There will be a lot thinking like that.

To have two of your top heavyweights engage for 11 rounds share 4 knockdowns and have the fight in the balance for the first half before one fighter gradually runs away with it and scores a showreel knockout. And it’s for the championship. And it is at the end of a trilogy with the other two fights being totally different.

Well if you didn’t enjoy that then there was zero point watching last night.

I think i get whats being said here. Fury wasnt great tonight (for him), and thats what made the fight great.. Fair too, he has suposidly had covid twice, 20 months out, the highs and lows of the AJ fight speculation, and then can only imagine the stress of his daughter situation. we should of never expected prime fury tonight, im just glad we got fury good enough to get it done, and it made for a cracking fight.

Balls to that. Wilder came out meaning business, he worked the jab very well during the first few rounds and was getting his big shots off early. I gave him the first two rounds. Pre fight i would never have predicted Wilder to take the first two rounds. Fury had to raise his game and he answered the call spectacularly. It was a great fight. In my opinion Wilder and Fury were both at their very best tonight, no question.

Enjoyed the fight , how could you not.

I’ve read people saying how Fury and Wilder crush AJ after seeing that last night but I kind of think AJ can take a bit of confidence from the fight.

Wilder vs AJ would be must see, a genuine 50/50 .

Thank you, exactly that. I enjoyed the fight, but both the quality from both boxers was poor. Fury struggled against a guy he breezed past previously and from my sofa look decidedly beatable.

Maybe some of you are waxing lyrical over a celebrated occasion and feel proud to be a boxing fan because you witnessed it?

But was that Fury at his best? Absolutely not. Is he there for the taking based on that showing? Yes. Wilder is beyond terrible, heart and dig aside.

Ps, I’ll cut some slack that you are being deliberately argumentative rather than deluded because your mates are asking ‘did you watch it?’.

But fornicate me, this forum used to offer balanced perspective. I don’t know what the majority smoke on here anymore. Can you not think for yourselves?
