theres still more money in the game for him. im sure he could still ko most guys. could probably still be paid millions to fight guys a lot worse than fury

on the other hand, he's loaded already and was talking retirement before the fight. and then he got brutally beaten down and ktfo. after being ko'd in his previous fight. he would probably be 37 or so by the time he fought next, if he did fight again. seems like he's on a path of going downhill if he continues.

He's not going to retire.

We won't see him in action for a long time, as he'll inevitably take a break, but he isn't going to retire.

from what i did read/hear of scott, it sounds more to me like he's saying 'deontay still has to make a decision/talk it over, he hasnt decided anything yet' and not 'deontays decided he's going to keep boxing'. just the impression i got, maybe he said more in another interview

He'll most likely make a one of the longest pauses of his career, like the pandemics one, after what he'll return to fight tomato cans and hope for the title shot, until he ultimately cashes out either in a shot or against some top guy.

Hopefully he is now willing to face a few top guys now he doesn't have to be so arrogant in his approach to matchmaking. Ruiz, Martin, Hunter, Bryan, Helenius, Sanchez or Hughie would all be somewhat respectable and intriguing comeback fights. I'd rather those opponents than him going back to facing the likes of Molina, Washington and Szpilka. He would only need one or two before being able to face the likes of Whyte/AJ/Usyk as a best of the rest fight, whichever of those should lose their next fight.

I'd imagine he'd fancy a fight with Joshua.

If Joshua loses the rematch, I think it may well get made, If Joshua wins, he's only going to want the Fury fight.

He's got probably a couple of years left in him, could KO gun shy Joshua, static overweight Whyte etc but Fury will always have his number, I think Usyk would beat him too.

If for no other reason he could still make bank fighting. People are always going to want to see KO's. There are still several interesting matchups for him. He probably doesn't get a shot at Fury again but he can still have some good fights.

Yes, for this reason: money. He's not got the type of personality that would translate well to media (i.e. co-commentating), so what else can he do? He's already 35, so he should spend a couple of years getting as much cash as he can, then ride off into the sunset.

It's too late for him to learn now. He's too old and his habits are too ingrained.

When the going got tough against Fury he reverted to winging in wide hooks again. He managed to clip Fury with a couple in round 4, but after that, he had pretty limited success in landing a clean punch flush.

Like trying to teach a dog to whistle.

I think he may not fight for a year maybe even three years, and then come back again somebody who's not really all that important. Kind of like how George Foreman did not fight in 1975 after losing in Zaire, and came back fighting a bunch of bums in 1976.

But at this late in the game it's hard for me to imagine Wilder fighting for that much longer, unless he wants to periodically fight guys from the Waffle House making a few bucks here and there just to say he still has it.

That being said I would like to see him fight Anthony Joshua. Both men are flawed heavyweights, who hit hard. But Wilder has a better chin than Joshua. Even though it wouldn't be for any titles it would be one hell of a fight for sure.

Could you imagine a super heavyweight pay-per-view where the co main event to Fury-Usyk was Wilder-Joshua? It will never happen but that would be the greatest pay-per-view imaginable.
