"Canelo: What Has Golovkin Done Since He Fought Me? Nothing!"
Given the excitement generated by last week's trilogy fight between heavyweight rivals Tyson Fury (31-0-1, 22 KO's) and Deontay Wilder (42-2-1, 41 KO's), some fans are wondering if we will ever see a third showdown between Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (56 -1-2, 38 KO's) and Gennadiy Golovkin (41-1-1, 36 KO's).
Like the first encounter between Fury and Wilder, the first bout between Canelo and Golovkin ended in a controversial twelve round draw.
Canelo won a close twelve round decision in their rematch in 2018.
Golovkin is still competing at middleweight, where he holds the IBF title. He is expected to face WBA champion Ryota Murata in a trilogy fight in December.
Canelo has been competing above the middleweight limit for the last few years.
He captured a light heavyweight title in late 2019, with a knockout of Sergey Kovalev.
Canelo would then drop down to super middleweight, where he's captured the WBC, WBA, WBO world titles.
In the main event of a Showtime Pay-Per-View card on November 6, he will face IBF champion Caleb Plant in a full division unification.
Canelo is not ruling out the possibility of facing Golovkin for a third time, but he also believes that his rival has not accomplished much of anything since their second fight.
Canelo has fought six times since their second meeting, while Golovkin has only been in the ring three times.
"I am ready for everything," said Canelo to ESPN Deportes.
"I am ready for everything, I am ready to make the best fights. You [journalists] hang on to that [the trilogy fight]. I'm doing more important things than him. Where is he? What has he done since he fought me? Nothing."
"I am doing other important things in my career. Beating champions, undefeated fighters."
Thoughts?

Since the GGG rematch, by the date of his next outing in three weeks’ time, Canelo would have defeated the following world champions:
• Caleb Plant
• Billy Joe Saunders
• Avni Yildirim
• Callum Smith
• Sergey Kovalev
• Daniel Jacobs
• Rocky Fielding
Within a 38-month timeframe, Canelo would have:
• Performed a successful defence of his unified world middleweight championship
• Captured a legitimate world title in the light heavyweight division
• Defeated three unbeaten legitimate world champions
• Become the inaugural undisputed world super middleweight champion
• Become a four-weight world champion
In stark contrast, GGG would have engaged in two mismatches and arguably lost one of his bouts against the likes of:
• Kamil Szeremeta
• Sergiy Derevyanchenko
• Steve Rolls
None of the fighters he faced were world champions, Gennadiy needlessly engaged in a catchweight bout and his next fight against Ryota Murata hasn’t even been finalised yet (it might not even happen).
By the time Canelo enters the ring against Caleb Plant, GGG would have only engaged in one very brief mismatch over a 25-month timeframe!
Even if you utterly despise Canelo, no one can possibly pretend his words aren’t 100% truthful!

I think they’ll fight again if DAZN are willing to pay for it.
They wouldn’t have offered Golovkin such a huge deal if they didn’t eventually intend to stage this bout.
And the mainstream masses will be sold the idea that GGG is every bit as good as he was five years ago.
It seems like every time Canelo is interviewed nowadays, he’s asked about GGG. So the media still care about this bout.
For sure, hardcore die-hard’s will inevitably feel that a third Canelo-GGG bout will be a blatant money-grab mismatch, but that perception has never prevented this sort of fights from happening.

Probably wouldent bring this up if i was canelo. it shows his best win was way past his peak and still won the series in most peoples eyes.

To be fair, if he's asked a question about GGG, he's going to answer it.
And boxing related articles tend to only quote the answers, not the questions being posed.

It's a fair point.
Let's be honest, at this stage, GGG would just be looking to cash out. He's inactive, and hasn't looked too great in his last outings. He's old, and at 168, he would be well up against it.
I think he finally gets stopped.
It's a shame, as I thought he edged their previous fights, but I think he's just too far gone now to win. Canelo is at his peak, and will himself soon start to slide, but GGG is already over that hump.

Yes I agree with you ... and with Canelo.

I'm a GGG fan and not really a fan of Canelo, although he has been winning me over with his performance in the GGG rematch and subsequent outings. I think GGG was robbed in their first fight (which I think GGG won 116-112) and I scored the rematch a draw, but it was close enough to go either way.
All that said, I agree with Canelo 100%.

I believe he (GGG) won the first fight and the second fight should have been the draw. Oh well. I don't like Canelo, as far as I'm concerned his record ought to have an asterisk next to it.
Now GGG is getting too old. There's no point in a rubber match. Let him fight these lesser guys and get some nice paydays so he can retire comfortably.

Losing via corrupt scorecards would probably take the wind out of the sales of anyone elses careers aswell. GGG is old and would most likely lose the third fight handily. He is clearly nearing retirement. To most people he beat Canelo atleast once. I don't think he has anything left to prove. The fact that he beat Canelo atleast once is enough for a third fight even if I don't want to see it.
**Canelo's career (corrupt scorecards and being a drug cheat) has really made me dislike him despite his obvious abilities. He's become Mayweather who people loved to hate when he really could have become a people's champ.

Yeah, I scored both for GGG, and I'm surprised that a lot thought Canelo won the second. I thought GGG won it even more clear!

I thought GGG won the second fight but there was room for dissent. Anyone thinking GGG didn't win the first one by a country-mile almost certainly has an agenda or a guide-dog.

Mike Coppinger (ESPN) has reported today that DAZN hasn't agreed to sanction the GGG-Murata bout, which is the reason it hasn't been made yet.
"Where are you? Paging Gennadiy Golovkin, Andy Ruiz, Keith Thurman and Gary Russell Jr."
Where's GGG and what could be next?
Gennady Golovkin was once among the biggest stars in boxing, a menacing puncher whose catchphrases endeared him to fans. But inactivity is the great momentum killer. And not just inactivity, but lack of big-time fights since he was narrowly defeated by Canelo Alvarez in their September 2018 rematch.
Since signing an exclusive deal with DAZN in 2018, he's competed just three times. His bout with Sergiy Dervyanchenko wasn't anticipated, yet ended up being one of the best action fights of 2019. Since that October scrap, GGG has fought only once, a stay-busy bout against Kamil Szeremeta in December 2020.
The long layoff could end soon, though. Golovkin is slated to fight Ryota Murata in a middleweight championship unification bout on Dec. 28 in Kobe, Japan, sources tell ESPN. Both sides agreed to the deal and are simply waiting for DAZN to sign off on the bout.
That's a big reason why GGG has been so inactive: a dispute with the streaming service.
And speaking of inactivity, this will be Murata's first fight since a fifth-round TKO of Steven Butler in December 2019.

He's almost 40, rich, just trying to unify his division for the last time, had a blast against Derevyachenko, who cares?

Fair sentiments. Canelo has achieved a lot lately.
The two previous fights will stand the test of time. Fans can always debate the scorecards.
The trilogy would still be big, at 168 I guess now, if they both won their fights. Ggg would need to look good with a ko of murata. Then make it for 2022, now or never.

He did plenty when he met Canelo though. Canelo is lucky to have emerged from those fights without an L. He was fortunate alright.

I would say this is the trilogy no one wants.
Its different from Wilder Fury 3, which turned out to be awesome because those guys were in their prime.
GGG is at least 4 years past prime, I thought he had slipped going into the first fight vs Canelo.
It will be a sad beatdown of a faded monster. I doubt I will have the stomach to watch it for free after the fact, let alone pay for it.

absolutely nothing to do with luck. zip!
ggg won that first fight. crystal clear.
one simply just can't possibly judge that fight as a draw, let alone in canelo's favour if observed with an objective eye. no fvckin way!
objectively judged it's simply not possible to score their second encounter too as anything else than a quite close golovkin win.
how close one sees ggg winning is the only thing that's debatable.
misjudged and by undeservedly giving one, two or more rounds to canelo one could wrongly call it a draw or a canelo win.
if you aren't one of the actual judges it's simply incompetence of objective judging.
the actual judges were simply corrupt and in whatever form compensated to neglect their duty of objective judging, fix the outcome and to rob ggg of his titles.
