Kind of hard to really gauge Braddock considering the bulk of his career was rather pitiful because of fighting on short notice, often times injured and malnourished. But, I tend to think that if he could dance circles around Max Baer then he could probably do the same thing to John Ruiz.

Baer underestimating Braddock was also a factor. Actually, it didn't really look like 'dancing around', despite the sheer dominance of Braddock and him outboxing Baer clearly. Well, it still seems, that Braddock had more tools than jabbing-and-grabbing sh!thouse Ruiz. The question is, if Braddock was prepared for the hugging contest instead of a fight and how a referee would reflect on it.

Braddock would win by a decision.
He was mentally tougher.
Braddock would knock Ruiz down in at least one round.
He had more grit and tenacity.
Ruiz was more of a business-man. He clinched too much.
Braddock was more of a hard core Warrior, similar to boxers like Mickey Ward.
