Hey gents, apologies as this is partly a moan, partly a request for help...

So I'm now fortunate enough to live within walking distance of that mecca of British boxing that is the York Hall and have been looking forward to going there on a regular basis. Aiming to start this coming Friday with the MTK Archie Sharp bill, but.... how the f**k do you get tickets?

I honestly feel like boxing is in the dark ages at times - no ticket pricing or information either via google search or through going direct to the MTK site or the York Hall itself. Have tried different search terms, but nothing coming up on third party sites like ticketmaster either. I may be missing something obvious, but right now bar phoning the York Hall tomorrow I'm at a loss as to what to do, so would welcome any thoughts from those in the know...

I honestly can't think of another sport or activity that makes it so difficult for potential customers!

You can get them on ticketmaster for the nights from 20 nov onwards. Maybe they have sold out for fights before that date.

Thanks guys, but you're kinda illustrating my point as to how poor the comms is around the ticket situation - I've got mates who would potentially be coming from more than an hour away, so the vague promise that they might be available on the door plus no info on actual pricing won't cut it for them. As for ticketmaster, those shows are up because it's a different promoter (Steve Goodwin I think), rather than because Friday's bill has sold out.
It's possibly because they know the fighters on the bill will shift the tickets themselves, so they don't need to attract random punters like me, but hardly seems a sensible long-term perspective given the potential to convert new fans (three of the guys potentially coming have never been to a show before).

That’s potentially what I’ll do fella, but just pointing out even that is not obvious in any of the comms. It’s just the madness of not being able to find out the basics like ticket pricing and where to purchase. Marketing 101.

Yeah, get in touch with the fighters - they will all be given a batch of tickets and will happily sell them on to you. Usually their mobile numbers are on the fight poster so get the fight poster for the bill and you will see the phone numbers of the fighters on the card and you can chat to them - I remember having a nice chat with Frank Grant when getting tickets for a Champs Camp show in Hulme Manchester back in the day.

Cheers Carlos - had already looked at the poster but absolutely nothing on it bar the names of the fighters themselves, no phone numbers (either central or individual). Like a god'damn treasure hunt!

I have just seen the fight poster! That is a weird fight poster! No information or ticket selling information.

I remember doing that once and the fighter being dead put out and asking me who I was and all kind of questions, in the end I just said “ mate I just need two tickets please “

As I said earlier, I'll call York Hall tomorrow if I have to and I've also now identified two boxers I can potentially message, but the bigger thing for me is how difficult boxing makes the whole experience when compared to virtually any other activity. My mates honestly can't believe it - just comes across to them as a complete Mickey Mouse show!

Just saw on Instagram one of the London based “away corner” fighters saying that he didn’t get any tickets from the promoter so to buy them on the door (29/10 MTK show York Hall)

He sells a fair few tickets normally

Crazy in this day and age that you can’t buy tickets in advance.

They must be confident that walk ups/tickets given to fighters will the sell the place out.

There are very few random walk-ins at boxing shows

The business model for most small promoters is boxers on ticket deals- and if they don't sell a minimum number of tickets then they won't get on future shows

In this case its almost as if MTK aren't bothered about ticket sales ..........
