which is more important to you?

A. a undisputed title fight is made. its by far the divisions best fight. to make it, the sanctioning bodies had to deny a promised mandatory shots to a challenger who worked his way up, but while good, is clearly not at the same level as the other two.
he's been waiting for a year already, and with the undisputed fight happening and probably a rematch, it will be another year or 2. he's out of the loop.
B. the mandatory gets his promised shot, but it prevents the undisputed fight from happening. the delay also causes another guy's mandatory status to trigger, which further prevents the undisputed fight
so basically, the best fight vs the principle that a guy who earned a mandatory shot should get it

I would rather watch the best fight but I wouldn’t kick up a stink if the mandatory is fair one (like Usyk or Whyte). I’d have an issue if it’s one of the many poor mandatories we’ve had like Yildrim and various others.

If we're going on principals, then I would apply that to the fighter that is in the number 1 spot too. Most of the time these mandatory challengers get to no 1 without having to do a lot - Yarde is a fine example, but it's rife throughout the rankings and always has been.

Yeah… love Okolie/Prasovic fights over the number 1 and 2 scrapping it out.

This is a really good thread imo. I would think the best fight is the more important for me.....but. I feel if the mandatory is earned fair and square then it should be respected. But if,as so often happens, that a boxer suddenly appears in ratings without merit then no

Wouldn't be bothered too much for either scenario, though it's the rematch clauses, combined with fighting twice a year max, that results in people getting frozen out - which isn't fair on a decent mandatory.

no such thing as a Honouring a mandatory shot - the principle must be respected,
