I wish the US had the casual fans of the UK. Honestly, most may recognize a name or two, but casual fans in the US don't know many of the top guys. I doubt the majority have even heard of the name Usyk.

I was at Wing Stop grabbing my lunch the other day. I was talking to my wife about the Canelo vs Plant fight this weekend. And some guy behind us said Canelo couldn't beat Tyson. This is how bad boxing is in the U.S. No one knows crap about the sport or it's current fighters

It’s pretty bad when a clueless individual expresses an uneducated opinion about something they don’t understand and haven’t bothered to fact-check, don’t you agree? :TU:

Canelo and now Fury are pretty popular. Wilder is now well known.

Then maybe you could throw in Andy Ruiz, Golovkin, Anthony Joshua if you're generous. Don't think Joshua has much name recognition in US though.

You really need to fight and base yourself there. I'd say the top UFC are pushing higher in US perhaps.

Fury and Canelo, if the truth is told, are the only two boxers who have truly crossed over into the cultural mainstream where people in the general public who are not boxing fans would recognize who they are.

NFL - Football
NBA - Basketball
NHL - ice Hockey
MLB - Baseball
College Football
Tennis
Golf
WWE/Wrestling
MMA/UFC
Soccer
Badminton
Motor Sports

^^

There more than 10 sports..

Can someone in the US confirm this is correct?

Boxing is still popular, the problem is unlike other sports boxing doesn't have a season. It's not structured. The top promotions have failed to follow a model like the UFC or Bellator, where the fighters signed to the promotions fight each other. They'd rather rest on their laurels, or waste time trying to secure deals fighting other men from other promotions.

That's part of the reason why people are gravitating to these sideshow exhibitions, because at least you see Jake Paul or Logan Paul constantly. Jake's fought like 5 times going on 6 times in the passed year or so. Logan Paul has fought twice in basically a years time. All of them major events.

There is a die-hard interest in boxing. Always has been. The problem is traditional boxing promoters like Bob Arum, Eddie Hearn, etc have basically stagnated the sport with this notion that everything has to be marinated.

They simply do not know how to market any of these guys, either. When I was a kid I constantly saw boxers on television in commercials or popular sitcoms, dramas, etc--- Carlos Palomino (Miller Lite), Ray Leonard (7UP), Larry Holmes (KFC), Marvin Hagler (Right Guard), etc.

Hell one of my favorites^^^ where fast food restaurant chains CROSS-PROMOTED upcoming fights like Foreman vs Morrison. But where are the boxers crossing into the cultural mainstream? It's all going to UFC guys or WWE wrestlers.

That is one poll. Another had boxing as the #8 sport in America.
Either way it is far from mainstream

I'd drop badminton. College basketball, figure skating, woman soccer, track and field

there are also some sports that really only get attention during the olympics, but during that time the athletes get way more attention than boxers do

swimming for example

Badminton?
IMO track and field/marathon/triathlon is more popular than a picnic game like badminton. College basketball has a big following in some areas of the country as well. Soccer is fairly big in some areas too (we get bigger crowds here for soccer than baseball where I am even though we just won the World Series)
Very few people in the US know any boxing names. Canelo is probably the best known and still only a small percentage of the population ever heard of him. I know very few people who ever heard of Wilder, Crawford, Spence, etc.
