Triller is looking to rebound from the Lopez-Kambosos debacle in an...interesting way. The promotion sent out a press release yesterday announcing its inaugural “Triad Combat” event on November 27th, which features a Metallica concert and “is expected to shatter all existing Pay-Per-View records in a unique broadcast which will include special surprises throughout.”
Their words.
Freefalling UFC veteran turned BKFC fighter Mike Perry, former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir, and our old pal Kubrat Pulev were all named as combatants. Dan Rafael reports that Pulev could headline against Vitor Belfort, who was last seen putting Evander Holyfield out to pasture in September.
As far as what “Triad Combat” actually entails, here’s what Kavanaugh and co. had to say:
TRIAD COMBAT is a revolutionary, new combat team sport which incorporates boxing and MMA rules in an aggressive, fast-paced manner with the fighters competing in a specially designed triangular ring over two-minute rounds featuring professional boxers competing against professional mixed martial arts fighters. The specific motto of leveling the playing field between the two sports utilizing crossover gloves and with holding allowed is meant to offer boxing and MMA fighters an even battleground where neither opponent has a greater advantage.
So basically BKFC, but dumber. Got it.
It’s very funny to me that they’re trying to counter-program Lopez-Kambosos, and considering Showtime’s got a terrific card of its own that evening, I eagerly anticipate another disaster.

Pulev is in semi retirement then. I thought he might fight Joe Joyce.

I've read "team sport" a few times in this thread, but I still don't understand what the team aspect is? Are they just like... adding-up the wins of Team MMA and the wins of Team Boxing at the end of the night? Or is there tag team action or something? What's team about it?

The triangle cage design I have already seen before down in Florida via Dada5000's bare knuckle boxing organization. It's like fighting in a telephone booth, and would only benefit brawlers and power punchers.
From my perspective a round cage design is optimal and fair to everybody. The original UFC cage was round and only became octagonal much later down the road.
I do like the idea of upper body holds and dirty boxing, because that's a throwback to the original London Prize Ring Rules that Jack Broughton created in the 19th century, so you definitely would get the best of both world's.
That being said, seems everybody is jumping on the bandwagon with these exhibitions. But competition is good, though I have a feeling that it will eventually fizzle out when wiser heads prevail.
Jesus Christ Almighty God bless you all

i dont understand this format ....is it basically bareknuckle boxing?
anything resembling boxing..........this is a horrible mismatch. a longtime hw contender who fought for the title last year vs a badly washed up mma fighter whose biggest strength was grappling (although tbf he had some good ko too). at least steve cunningham was a nearly 50 year old mostly cruiser ....

Old and rusty Cunningham mercifully toyed with Mir. Still credible Pulev gotta KO Frank easily.
