Press Release

Kerman ‘Revolver’ Lejarraga returns to his home of Bilbao on Friday December 3, defending his European Super-Welterweight Title against Jack 'Quiet Storm' Flatley, live from the Bilbao Arena, Spain, and on DAZN worldwide.

Bilbao native Lejarraga (33-2, 25 KOs) returns to his hometown on December, defending his recently acquired EBU European Super-Welter Title. The tough Spaniard claimed victory by technical decision last time out against undefeated Frenchman Dylan Charrat, after an accidental clash of heads saw the bout stopped in round 10.

Ex-English Champion Flatley (17-1, 4 KOs) faces the biggest test of his career on December 4 against Lejarraga, a man with 35 professional fights and only two losses. The Bolton Super-Welterweight has only been stopped once back in 2019, amassing an impressive 17 wins on his way to a shot at the European Title.

In the second title fight of the night, Damian Biacho (11-0, 2 KOs) takes on fellow Spaniard and also flawless Guillermo Rivero (8-0-1, 1 KO) for the Spanish Super-Middleweight Title and maintain a perfect start to their respective careers.

Spanish Lightweight Samuel Carmona (5-0, 3 KOs) fights again in 2021 following a unanimous decision victory against Nicaraguan Joel Sanchez in July this year. Campbell Hatton returns to the ring after his win over Sonni Martinez on the Anthony Joshua vs. Oleksandr Usyk undercard and Jonathan Alonso (20-1, 7 KOs) looks to make it three wins on the bounce after suffering his first professional loss back 2019.

“It’s great to see fighters going back to their hometown to headline a card and what a night of boxing we’ve got on our hands on December 3,” said Matchroom Boxing CEO Frank Smith. “Lejarraga vs. Flatley will be an all-out war, with a domestic title fight before and the likes of Hatton, Carmona and Alonso all looking to make statements to their division. Don’t miss the action, live worldwide on DAZN.”

Lejarraga is never in a bad fight so I’ve always quite liked these Spanish DAZN shows.

No doubt they’ll be announcing Campbell’s fight a day or so before the weigh in.

Based on his last fight I’m not surprised. They won’t want to give anyone more than a couple of days notice!

He’s fighting Attila Csereklye who’s 10-24 with half of his losses being stoppages.

What sort of numbers do these Spanish shows do ? Boxing's not big in Spain is it ?
Wonder what there is about it that in some countries they just don't take to it .

Boxing isn't that big in Spain, someone like Sergio Garcia never put enough bums on seats to be able to fund a European title defence at home.
A lot of the time home fighters on smaller shows fight for free to get a win.
Kerman sold out Arenas to the roof.

Lejarraga is from Bilbao, a traditional working class/industrial/merchant harbour city, that appreciates boxing. Lejarraga was also part of the Athletic Bilbao ultras, so he had a lot of followers among the ultras.

To understand why Spanish boxing has a small following you need to go back to the time after the dictatorship ended and how Spanish media decided to boycott boxing as a sport. Consequently there is no money in the sport, and boxers fight for very small purses.

However, I don't think this event will be anything like the shows there used to be in Bilbao before the corona-break, because Kerman split with his coach and management, and Matchroom is now staging the show, obviously much less prepared with no local boxers but Lejarraga on the show. They also decided to stage this show on a weekend where a lot of people might travel away, but on a Friday (rather than the usual Saturday shows), so it will be more difficult for people all over Spain to travel to Bilbao to see boxing. I used to go there myself a few times. Great show, a very enthusiastic public.

Seems like they have given Hatton the worst of the worst to give him a stoppage win. There was a fight early on with two undefeated fighters I think, why didn't they show that fight rather than Hatton???

So early in the card.

Lol I think Hearn realised that he should let him ‘develop’ and shouldn’t be so pressured.

I mean he looked OK but easy to hit even by that 12 yr old stiff. They might as well have him hit a punch bag. The other guy had nothing

Rivero making Malinaggi look like Tyson.
Must be frustrating being a box fighter with zero pop.
