i dont know if id say too slick.......but i think joe had the right mix of super high work rate, fitness, speed, mobility, and toughness to win on points.

Canelo is slicker than Calzaghe. He has decent defensive rolls and good counter-pounching. Calzaghe was more of an agile tapper than a slick fighter, which could be unpredictable and hard to be hit.
Calzaghe could cause problems for Canelo with workrate, but Canelo wouldn't feel Joe's punches. Canelo would be more effective and he would score more damage.
Canelo by dec or late stoppage.

Don't think Canelo could stop Calzaghe. He couldn't stop Callum Smith, Chavez Jr or Daniel Jacobs. Don't think Joe would be concerned by Canelo's power.

Smith and Chavez focused on a survival.

I’d favour calzaghe on points I think the work rate would make it count on a close decision maybe 115-113

Nice fight
Probably need to put aside my Joe Calzaghe fan bias.
I think there are fights Calzaghe could lose at SMW.......I think Froch could have been a massive/big time nuisance and would come with a feck you attitude, physicality and awkwardness that might have upset the applecart.
I still pop into Froch's book and his confidence that he was not going to get bullied at SMW physically and would find a way was a huge asset for him.
Ward too but differently to Froch's confidence in bossing an opponent, landing a huge punch.
But up here at SMW I edge towards Calzaghe over Canelo.
And especially the Calzaghe who had to rethink his fighting from when he banged people over with good hands.
Only just mind you....and there could be some trips to the canvas.

I will say canelo is extremely efficient and calzaghe never fought anyone as good at 168... and joe had issues with 40 yo bernards timing and countering. So its a close fight
