Rosado has speed and power but why does he suck

Watching Rosado last night I started to wonder why he is unable to beat top fighters despite having what appears to be good speed and power. Obviously, he is quite old but he doesn't appear to look any better or worse than he did 15 years ago. Watching the fight I could not believe how atrocious his footwork is. Its unreal and most likely the reason why he got stuck throughout his career. This defense is basically to stand in one place with his feet firmly planted to the ground while keeping a tight guard which appears to blind him and give him no possibility to counter. This defense is fine when necessary but Rosado does it repeatedly throughout the fight, taking 9,10, 11 punches in a row of which 4 or 5 land. For the life of me I couldn't understand why Rosado is unable to take a lateral step and counter, slip something and counter, roll under something and counter..... all basic boxing skills. I like Rosado but its sad to say that he is either very dumb (does the same thing over and over despite its ineffectiveness) or was never thought basic footwork and movement.

He isn't that fast. Neither he is very polished with skills. He's a tough fighter and he can bang, that's right.

Rosado doesn't have power and he's not very fast. The announcers last night made it seem like he was rocking Munguia but he wasn't. Munguia was able to take the best Rosado could throw and wasn't phased a bit. When a guy is able to throw multiple combos over and over it's a sign the guy he's fighting is feather fisted. Rosado couldn't avoid anything, he's too slow to slip the punches. He has a good chin, good cardio, and lots of heart. Rosado is a fine club type fighter but against world class competition he's outgunned and outmatched.

He's not that big of a puncher so no he doesn't have a lot of power. I wouldn't say he sucks, he's just not elite. I'm sure he's better than 85 to 90% of boxers, he's just not one of the very best.

There's a big gap between not being one of the very best and "sucking"

He has a reliable ceiling. That's why he makes a nice opponent and gets lots of opportunities you wouldn't expect.
He has earned beyond what his attributes would dictate.
Good on him, he works hard in the gym. It just goes to show you dont need a title or an unbeaten record to earn a living off boxing.

He’s faced many of the best of his era. A really cool fighter. I’d call him a journeyman if he wasn’t so frequently featured on televised boxing cards.

Indeed he faced the best of his era. He fought some very good fighters and the version of Rosado that beat Jacobs and Bek would've beaten some mw champs like Sturm, Martinez's from Cotto fight, Daniel Geale, Sam Soliman and Darren Barker.

I think his lack of proper punching power and his sensitive facial skin were his main problems.

Gabe Rosado doesn’t “suck”.

He’s reached his ceiling and is simply a very decent gatekeeper that’s only won two bouts by KO within the last nine years.

He’s made a few poor career choices, been poorly managed and has also suffered some unfortunate losses via the judges scorecards in closely competitive bouts that could have gone either way.

The sport of boxing wouldn’t exist without guys like Rosado.

its interesting, on the one hand i kinda think of rosado as a hard luck kinda guy, constantly being matched tough and having some calls go against him

on the other, he's 26-14 yet has been in notable fights and on tv basically forever, with 2 world title shots

gabe's good, he just aint good enough

He cuts, has poor defense and doesnt have any attribute to overcome those deficiencies at the top

Fun guy to watch. Had he been matched more carefully he could have won a trinket or 2

the poor defense is the key for me, prob the biggest factor that seperates him from higher levels

munguia is known to be easy to hit and still had clearly superior defense. in gabe's previous fight, where he got the big ko over bek, he was also getting pounded and beat up all fight before the ko

Rosado may win quite a few as an mma crossover. It seems like he's fearless, with a warrior mentality.

Rosado is a gate keeper of sorts i say to fighters entering the top 10 i remember him fighting triple g trying to intimated him with his neck tattoos ggg not having any of it ,freddie roach was in the corner mungia fight i dont think rosado won many rds 2 at most , his experience carried him through that fight .he is quite a basic fighter, tough in good condtion ,
