Potential fight of the year and certainly the most eagerly awaited bout in Scotland for decades has been set for Saturday April 9th at the Kelvin Hall with the vacant British super-featherweight title up for grabs. it had originally been slated for 18th March.

Yes, but I recall reading that SKY have a few free Saturdays in 2005.

The purse bids for this were originally won by Barry Hearn, who bid 11 grand more than Uncle Frankie to get it. Now since Tommy gilmour is in association with Hearn and Docherty is a Gilmour fighter it has generally been accepted that he would be dealing with the promotion etc of the bout. But.........

Yesterday Uncle Frank called for the promotional rights to the fight to be stripped from Barry Hearn. Frankie is unhappy about the date of the fight haveing been changed claiming that it has upset the training shcedule of Arthur. To quote Uncle frank...

Tommy Gilmour does not have this fight," said Warren. "He is not the promoter, it was Barry Hearn who won the purse bids. We signed for the fight to take place on 18 March, then suddenly there is a press conference saying it is 9 April.

"I have asked the British Boxing Board of Control to take the fight away from them as it is obvious they cannot run it without television. We have 12 television dates available and we want to move on now. This is not fair to the fighters who are incurring extra training expenses because of this."

Then Andy Ayling got in on the act.... "The decision by Tommy Gilmour and Barry Hearn to reschedule the fight was done unilaterally and in fact breaches the Boxing Board of Control’s own rules.

"Under Board rules if an original purse bid offer fight date cannot be honoured then the contract is null and void and the second highest bidder, in this case allegedly, then takes over the right to stage the fight. We have lodged a formal complaint with the board under this rule and plan to take over the promotion and stage it in Edinburgh."

"We are expecting the Board to respond to us along these lines within the next 48 hours."

However a week or two back there was a bit of a rammy over why SN hadnt yet signed a contract with Arthurs signature on it confirming the fight for the original date. According to Gilmour..

"The purse bids closed on 8 December, we received Craig’s contract from the Board on 14 December and returned it immediately," said Gilmour. "It took Sports Network [Warren’s company] until 11 January to sign Arthur’s contract, preventing us getting down to the nitty gritty of arranging the fight until then."

"Forget the politics here," said Gilmour, "and let’s get this fight on. Both boxers want the fight to happen and so does the Scottish boxing public."

what the fornicate is up with Warren that he tries to screw up every fuckin high profile fight time and time again. Just because he lost the purse bids on this one hes throwing his toys from the pram again. I mean the fight has been put back 3 weeks, so what. its hardly going to break the SN bank in training ex's.

both the fighters want it, the fans want it but yet again uncle frankie threatens to blow the hole thing out the water with petty little jealous hissy fits.

If Hearns won the purse bids and Gilmour is in partership with Hearns/Matchroom, then surely its no different to if uncle frankie wins a purse bid with SN and gets the dwarf to do some of the promotional work too?

Incidently if Warrens appeal is upheld the bout (if it ever actually goes ahead) will be at either Ingliston or Meadowbank.

SIMON Block, general secretary of the British Boxing Board of Control, has called on rival promoters Barry Hearn and allegedly to settle their differences or risk inflicting a damaging blow to Scottish boxing.

The administrative stewards of the BBBC are likely to make a decision early next week on Warren’s protest at the change of date announced by Hearn and his co-promoter Tommy Gilmour for the British and Commonwealth super-featherweight title fight between Craig Docherty and Alex Arthur. It is now scheduled for 9 April at the Kelvin Hall in Glasgow.

Warren, who manages and promotes Arthur, claims the delay from the original date of 18 March breaches the contract for the contest which he lost by £11,000 to Hearn when it went to purse bids last December. Gilmour, manager of Commonwealth champion Docherty, counters by pointing out the 34-day delay by Warren in completing Arthur’s fight contract.

The row has placed Scotland’s biggest contest since Ken Buchanan and Jim Watt’s 1973 British lightweight title fight in serious doubt. Block said: "I’m very sorry we find ourselves in this position regarding what is potentially a great contest. I’m concerned that if the fight does not go ahead, it will do immense damage to both boxers and to both Scottish and British boxing. With a little goodwill from both parties, we could reach an agreement.

"The Board stewards now have to consider all the points made by both sides before arriving at a decision.

"One saving grace is that I am perfectly satisfied that both Craig Docherty and Alex Arthur, who after all employ their respective managers, want this fight to happen."

I read in the paper that Gilmour had writted to SKY asking them to show the fight, hope we get to see it as well

I agree, this is a real even fight for a real Title, plus with the rival Scottish city angle etc It should be a good fight.
