I imagine it might be as simple as setting those name fields to wrap, so if a name is too long, rather than getting cut off, it just wraps to a second line. Easy for me to say...I don't know html or web design from my elbows. But if they can pull that off I would think it'd be an easy adjustment.
Wow, nice. I see the adjustment already. However...
If a name is on 2 lines and it is copied, it pastes to 2 lines rather than one (whether its to excel or a text editor). Small nitpick, I admit.
Even if there's no way to fix that, it's still an improvement. Thanks!
I've gotta say I'm really surprised at the extended silence about all these issues. Usually when there's a controversy about an update, they'll discuss it with us and either tweak it or defend the decisions.
In this case the site was brutally butchered, and it's like the comms are in lockdown.

Please bring back the averages of fan scoring for each round. It was an incredible tool for people to understand how close a round was in the eyes of hundreds or even thousands of fans. Now the new update has every fan score rounded up and there's no substitute for it. No other websites have the sample size of fan scoring that BoxRec does.
While we have nowhere near the userbase BoxRec does, we provide some interesting post-fight scoring analysis, with our system requiring users to input some additional metrics and data per round. You might find it of interest
Thank you for the recommendation! I'll check it out!

I get buses/boats/palmtrees to check when I want to access the database, but mostly when I go on the site from the forum. If I use a websearch engine (Google, Qwant...) or the favorite in my browser, I almost never have to sign in again the cookies allow me to access directly on the site.
I am not that disturbed by the new look of the site either, I am bit more disturbed by the fact that there is no communication around this restyling. The people behind the site are reading since they solved at least two of the major problems mentioned in the forum after the restyling (notion of W, D, L missing making the lisibilty impossible notably for colorblind people, and named shortened/cut when they were too long).
I still have two things bothering me :
- I don't mind having to do a couple more clicks to access a page (for the list of bouts of a precise event for example), except the fact that, when I spent some time visiting the site, going from one fighter to the other, from one event to the other, if I have to click/open more pages for the same result, I reach the "Too many requests" page more quickly than before. And then I have to check a case stating I am a human (I personally had no doubt about being a human, but 1m very often suspected in here to be a robot), then the infamous selection of boats/buses....
- The rating of a boxer was a very interesting data, and something that was provided exclusively by the site. By removing that data (nowhere is the rating of a boxer provided, I mean .001 for the new or those who haven't accomplished much yet or 715.1 for those who are potential number one pound for pound, determined by an algorythm described somewhere but now maybe even no longer used). The ranking is a valuable data, but not that precise and doesn't allow comparisons between fighters (#N/A in bantam vs #N/A in bantam is a bit insignificant). Without this rating, the site has become mostly a database and nothing else. Of course it is THE database regarding boxing. But it was more than that before.
The ratings were very helpful for if I was unfamiliar with two boxers, if a boxer was coming off a layoff and was not ranked. I don't watch as much as some boxing fans, so having the ratings at least gives me some type of metric to use when deciding what to catch on a given weekend.

I wanted to say that this update is horrible. The previous format was very good, so I hope it will be brought back.
Agreed. Boxrec was a great site and an essential go to for a number reasons/functions. Now it is utterly unusable. Sad to say I won’t be visiting it until these issues are resolved. Even sadder is there weren’t significant issues to begin with.
The user preferences page has a setting "display ratings" but even when I have it set to "yes" I don't see any numerical ratings on the fighter pages or the ratings pages. Please bring these back, they were so important to the site's usefulness!!
I just tried adding a fighter to my watchlist and it told me that I could only watch 10 fighters at a time. What possible reason is there for such an absurdly low limit? I mean the watchlist is only useful for someone like myself who watches many many fighters. If I was only watching 10 I wouldn't even need such a function. Absolutely ridiculous. I can only pray this limit gets removed, as no other site has such a function that I'm aware of.
I wasn't going to post about the new designs unpleasant appearance, but since I had to post anyway, I may as well. When looking at, say, the watch list, and it shows the results of the fighters' last 6 fights, they way that the wins/draws/losses are all on different lines looks really sloppy. Combine this with the fact that it shows both the amateur and pro records and it can actually be hard to make sense of. The only reason I can imagine it was set up like this is for the colorblind, which is fair enough, but it sure is ugly.

I agree, bring back the W and L, it makes it much easier to view. I wish they would bring back numbering each bout too, really handy to see what someone was on when they first lost, had a title shot etc.. If the records could all be fitted on one page that'll be great as well.
Yes, good point about the numbering, as well as being able to view a record as a single page.

Agree
Before website's change I used to view a lot of fighters' pages before i went to sleep. That was so relaxing
Because I don't know boxing that well, it is not possible no more.
It would be so great, if ratings were shown again.
Repeatedly having to do the captcha for the forum is very offputting. I think there will be a big decline in traffic if it stays this way. We already see some drop off.
I think the Lopez vs. Campa fight shows how using the placement rankings can be misleading when given in place of (rather than in addition to) the raw numbers behind them. If you look at the schedule, it says it is #4 vs. #60 at super lightweight. But that's kind of misleading because Teo is #4 at lightweight, not super lightweight.
Having the raw numbers available lets you know the relative depth of the divisions, which is extremely useful information.
