Makabu would get stopped by Canelo. It would be a good win, but imo Bivol or Beterbiev would be better wins.

Anyway, Makuba is a small CW and he's looking more accessible size-wise to Canelo but anyway it would be a good win for him.

I would like Bivol to face Beterbiev in a unification in Moscow. Then we'll know which is the real deal. Quite unlikely though.

I can see why they want it now rather than waiting, Might be the easiest cruiserweight shot for a long while. Id rather him fight benivedez, then go for undisputed at 175, then look at cruiser. But by then who knows who the cruiser champ will be in 2 years time, so if canelo wants to snipe this then back to 175 (or 168) then fair enough.

What would canelo weigh in at? surely he wouldent put on much more than he is now, but what is he now? 180ish?

That would be awesome but ain't gonna happen. Both fighters are coddling their belts for Canelo payday.

He'll do what he did with Kovalev, beat the champ and then go back down in weight. He's not sticking around at cruiserweight. But quite frankly I am tired of Canelo getting all of these title shots that he hasn't earned and I hope that he gets knocked on his ass by someone he perceives to be no threat.

Yup. Makabu is there to be taken and he would look good as a win on Canelo's resume. Makabu would be a better win than Kovalev or Callum Smith. I wonder if it would be a rehydration clause?
Anyway Makabu would have plenty of time to get ready for Canelo.

Well he's the money man and even if he'd get KTFO, he'd have a rematch clause.

Imo if Canelo would beat Makabu, Beterbiev, Bivol and Joe Smith would be hands down an ATG.

I think Makabu may fight first Thabiso Mchunu.

Yeah, risk it against Mchunu for peanuts instead of making his highest payday against Canelo. You can't be serious right now, man.

very good case you can make for the thread title being true, but all would be good wins so im good with any of them

my preference would be to him to focus on being undisputed at 175 - bert, bivy, big bangin' salami joe :box:

Picking Makabu at CW is like picking Kovalev at LHW back then. Canelo picked the most vulnerable champions in these divisions.

Well, business wise you're right, it's common sense, but Mchunu may be his mandatory first. It depends on wbc's boss.

Indeed bc those guys are more proven and they have better wins.

It’s kind of weird to see Canelo receive criticism for the calibre of opposition he’s facing, with people saying there are better fighters out there he could be fighting, which is an opinion I can appreciate.

However, why aren’t the same people applying the same high standards to Beterbiev, Bivol & Benavidez… or for that matter Charlo and Andrade?

Am I missing something?

• Why aren’t Charlo and Andrade facing each other to earn the right to fight Canelo?

• Why aren’t Beterbiev and Bivol facing each other to earn the right to fight Canelo?

• Why does Benavidez keep throwing away his world title and facing lacklustre opposition?

It seems that fight fans no longer care about fighters earning their opportunities nowadays.

Well yes, Makabu is aint Usyk, Gassiev or Mairis Briedis but he's a strong CW champion. He's a much stronger fighter than the version of Kovalev that fought Canelo. Also Makabu will have plenty of time to get ready for Canelo.

As I said Makabu would be a better win tha Kovalev or Callum Smith.

To be fair, discussions for the Canelo-Kovalev bout commenced eight months prior and terms were agreed roughly three months later.

Krusher claimed he wanted to maintain a busy schedule prior to facing Canelo.

True, and believe me I'd like to see those guys mixing up each other in fights but tbh it's all about the big paydays of Canelo. Business wise those guys would be reckless to risk their belts in some "peanuts" money fights and not wait for Canelo's call. Also Bivol, Beterbiev and Joe have good resumes. They have no poor resumes like Charlo, Andrade or Benavidez.

It’s this pound for pound era. That’s the only reason Makabu is appealing.

That being said I will buy the fight, and I will love it.

Would this fight be at 200lbs or 190 lbs with an obvious rehydration clause?

Canelo vs one of the Paul brothers would be PPV worthy, much more than Ortiz vs Martin.

Agreed, because there's a fair chance that Canelo gets caught and stopped at that weight division. He will be in against a much naturally bigger man.

Yeah man it’s pure intrigue more than a great boxing match. Would love to see CA do it though. That’ll be sick. Then he can fight the best at 175. Or hell idk is there any stopping this man? Is he the future of Bridgerweight?

190lbs, because that's the WBC's official weight limit for the cruiserweight division.

Canelo told the media he'll enter the ring around the 180lbs mark.
