Wow, that was unexpected. The man is at the top of his game, he has only been defeated by a gradmaster.

Maybe he was too emotional. Those instant post-fight retirements sometimes don't work.

I support his decision. He has done what he could in boxing and he has his health. He has made plenty of money and he has a good start on his post boxing career.
I hope that he sticks to his decision.

I think His dad pulling him out of the fight makes more sense if retirement was on the mind of both of them. no point losing a warrior decision if your retiring, so i dont feel this is a spur of the moment thing.
He should really retire, his biggest fights are behind him, he has a good comentary gig, and his style takes a lot of dammage.
But If he were to keep fighting i guess he could try rematch Ugas and retire with a belt, brook, or thurman and avenge those losses, But i dont think there is anything new out there for him. Made millllions the 2 big fights he was in, so should be right.
He should really retire, his biggest fights are behind him, he has a good comentary gig, and his style takes a lot of dammage.

Well, not a bad decision. It's better to retire earlier, in prime, than to retire later, after receiving extra-damage.

He was always there or there abouts in the fights he lost.
Almost a HOF, Almost a multi belt champ.
But definitely a millionaire.

What I meant is Porter is an almost guy, if you beat him your ready to beat the guy. He's an inarguable top 5 fighter of the division for years, retired now being a top 3 one. He was a champion. Porter's stock will grow even more within time.
Porter gave the best all they can handle in all good fights too. I had Porter ahead at the end of all 3 fights with prime Thurman, Spence & Crawford.
Showtime has a bright career after boxing.

I like Porter. Not one of my favorites, but he always gave a courageous effort, and this is probably the right time to call it a career. He seems to have a good gig as commentator ready and waiting for him, and I don't really figure there's much more he can accomplish as a fighter. He can hold his head high though. He had a very solid career.

If there's one fight that'd be worth doing for him, it'd be if they can set up a rematch between he and Keith Thurman. I figure he could probably beat Keith these days, but that'd just be for the pride of avenging a loss. No real need for it.

Good decision by Porter.
He isn't shot and he could probably still teach some up and comers a lesson, but what's the point in him settling down to become 'name' opponent?
He only lost to the elite and in Crawford, he might just have lost to the elite of the elites, so no shame there at all.
He's an engaging commentator and his Porter Way podcast is also entertaining, so he will have plenty to occupy his time.

He's 34, now that he lost to Crawford he probably isn't getting another shot at the title with Spence still out there. He's accomplished what he could in the sport. He had a great career, good time to hang up the gloves.

He can make a little more on the side helping coach guys how to beat Usyk.
Probably the only welterweight to ever beat a guy that became a multi belt holding heavyweight champ...even if it was amateurs.

True. He must be about 5'6", guessing since Crawford is 5'8". He was very disciplined in managing his weight.
