Terence Crawford wants to become Spence Jr's IBF mandatory challenger!?!

This move reeks of desperation to me, because when Bud was with Top Rank, he originally demanded 60% of the total purse pot in order to fight Spence Jr.

And now that he's been released by Bob Arum, essentially dumped, coupled with Eddie Hearn expressing disinterest in working with Crawford, then this has resulted in Bud being a free agent that no one wants (yet).

The IBF rules state that challengers only receive a 25% split, which is increased to 35% for interim titleholders challenging the official champion.

I don’t see how the IBF could force Spence Jr. to face Crawford, without changing their rules. And Errol is entitled to a voluntary defence (and he’ll need one to get rid of his ring rust).

So I don’t see the point in Crawford’s tweet, unless it’s a publicity stunt, a dishonest way to pretend he’s legitimately trying to make the Spence Jr. fight.

Thoughts?

He sleeps like a baby on a waterbed filled with Bob Arum's tears.

Fuk i hope they make him mandatory with a 25% split. Craw has been playing shinanigans for years asking for splits he dosent deserve for big fights, and taking his high mandatory minimum for bang average fights.

I think it's meant to be a joke.

Like he'd take 25%..

Agreed. Like it’s such easy work, he’d take the 25% satchel of cash and belt.

I think that these 2 guys like each other a lot outside of the game. I think that when they meet, it’s going to be a 2 to 3 fight type of relationship that will one day have them joking about the fights in another 25 years.

Rule 10E of the IBF purse bid rules basically says that purse bid percentages can be changed for certain circumstances with majority board approval.
So I'm sure this would fall under this

He's just reaffirming his desire to make the fight. It's not a formal signed request to the IBF although he should make one, hell you could write it up for him.

From an IBF standpoint this would make sense. Their champion is not the real champion but a fraud and an embarrassment so they can force their champion to fight the real champion thereby with the real champion defeating their champ the real champ also becomes their champ instead of the shameful ducking pretender that they have now.

Help Terrence write up the formal request Enlightened-One, worst case scenario Errol vacates like we all know he will.

Spence is a fraud and an embarrassment? Wtf? The two not fighting is on both guys. Spence had a bad car wreck, now eye surgery. He fought D Garcia after the wreck, and Crawford chose Amir Con over Garcia...offered $1-2 million more. Courage? His re-signing with Arum was a problem too, and he knew it.
I like both guys. Slightly favor Bud if they do fight. In the meantime, Bud should fight Ennis, or is he "afraid"? 😁

I expected you would be trolling me, as you always do, worthLess fornicate. I'm trying to make common sense, boxing discussion. MODS. Get rid of this asshole or get rid of me. Sick of the BS! I do not fornicating care. I just want to be left alone...too old for this shit. He's a piece of shit just like EO.
Spence is coming off eye surgery, so doubt if anyone is expecting him to fight Crawford next. He said before the Pac fight he would move up if he couldn't get the Crawford fight next.

Also, while I have never used it, you have the ignore option.

I guess the reason for my frustration about Crawford’s actions, which compels me to think he’s being insincere, is the fact he’s going down the social media route to pretend he’s trying to force the IBF to make the fight, coupled with the fact that he has mentioned the wrong governing body, because it’s only the WBC that has rules and precedents at their disposal to force their champions to defend their belts against titleholders from other organisations.

Crawford should have “people” within his own team submitting formal requests to the WBC to force them to make the Spence Jr. fight.

Instead, he’s lazily tweeted the IBF. It’s a meaningless gesture.

But the thing is, many fans are clueless, so they’ll gullibly believe Crawford’s legitimately trying to make the Spence Jr. fight, but he isn’t.

He should forget about publicity stunts and instead focus on orchestrating new deals with promoters and networks in order to arrange his next bout.

Terence Crawford surely knows he’s not facing Spence Jr. anytime soon, because the next time ‘The Truth’ steps foot inside the ring, he would have only competed once within the last 2½ years, which inevitably means Errol will almost certainly need to engage in a ring-rust clearing bout before he considers facing anyone half-decent.

After Kudratillo Abdukakhorov's recent defeat, Jaron Ennis probably becomes the highest-rated IBF title contender.

I suspect the IBF will automatically instate Jaron “Boots” Ennis as Spence Jr's mandatory challenger, rather than ordering a final eliminator, because Errol hasn’t performed mandatory defence of their strap for 3½ years, but I could be wrong, since they're sticklers for their rules.

On a related note, the WBC have ordered David Avanesyan and Vergil Ortiz Jr. to engage in a final eliminator to become Errol Spence Jr’s mandatory challenger.

Unless he vacates or is stripped, Spence Jr. is definitely obliged to perform a mandatory defence of his IBF title before he defends his WBC strap.

However, I expect Spence Jr’s handlers to request special dispensation from the IBF to allow him to engage in an interim voluntary defence (due to his injury and inactivity).

The rumour mill is also hinting that Spence Jr. might vacate and make the jump to 154lbs, which is something he may be compelled to do if he’s forced to face a dangerous opponent like Jaron “Boots” Ennis next. It is just too soon!

It’s unrealistic to expect Spence Jr. to be facing someone like “Boots” Ennis, Crawford or the victor of Avanesyan-Ortiz Jr., after such a lengthy period of inactivity, without being given the opportunity beforehand to engage in a ring-rust clearing voluntary defence against a very beatable opponent.

You’re probably right.

The next time Spence Jr. steps foot inside the ring, he would have only fought once during a 2½ year timeframe, coupled with being constantly inactive for at least sixteen months.

I hope the car crash hasn’t rendered his body as “broken” or as injury-prone as Keith Thurman’s, since this appears to be a distinct possibility.

Ofcourse your princess should only do tuneups and fights vs ancient former flyweight champions. Or perhaps some exhibition bouts like Mayweather does, after all he has earned it hasn't he?

I don't understand the point you're trying to make.

You’re obviously attempting to be derogatory, but all I hear when I read your words out loud is white noise. It’s just meaningless babble.

It’s as if someone transcribed the bizarre noises emitted from a chimpanzee pen in a zoo, copied and pasted them, and then submitted those words verbatim as your post I’ve just quoted.

Yes they make up the rules as they go along. It is boxing and the normal rules of decency and logic go out the window
