January Week 2-2022 Fight Picks Contest-NEW PLAYERS WELCOME!!
Posted: 02 Jan 2022, 16:20
by ironbeard
Welcome to week #2 of the January round of this fight picks contest!
Just one fight this week, Friday, January 7:
Luis Reynaldo Nunez (15-0) v Carlos Arrietta (14-0).
Picks are due by no later than 9am Pacific Time, January 7, 2022.
Good luck to all!
Rules, etc(I have added a couple of things)
I will choose fights I want to include in the contest each week.
People are invited to choose:
1. Winner or draw (correct prediction = 5 points)
2. Method of victory: decision/Stoppage (correct prediction = 5 points)
3. Round of stoppage (correct prediction = 5 points
Example 1; correct winner and wrong method = 5 points.
Example 2; correct prediction of draw = 5 points.
Example 3; correct winner and correct method (wrong round if stoppage) = 10 points.
Example 4; correct winner + correct stoppage prediction + correct round of stoppage prediction = 15 points.
The Competition Board will periodically choose bigger fights that appear to be particularly competitive to designate as Multiplier Fights. The value of correct predictions in those fights shall be multiplied by 2X or 3X as designated by me . . . I mean The Competition Board.
Each month is treated as an individual contest. The top three competitors for the month receive bonuses as follows:
1st place = 15 point bonus
2nd place = 10 point bonus
3rd place = 5 point bonus
If two participants tie for 1st place in any month, they will split the 1st and 2nd place points (12.5 points each).
If three or more participants tie for 1st place in any month, they will split the sum of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place bonus points (30).
Same method applies for ties for 2nd or 3rd in any month.
All contestants start at 0 at the beginning of each month. Points from individual months are added together to determine the Champion at the end of 2022.
If two or more contestants tie for the 2022 Grand Championship, the tie will be broken as follows.
#1 tiebreaker = total correct picks for the year.
#2 tiebreaker = total correct method of victory picks.
#3 tiebreaker = total correct round of stoppage picks.
Deadline for picks is 9am Pacific Time on the day of the first fight that week.
(Rules may be amended/evolved by ironbeard. Any suggestions are welcomed by PM or on this thread)
Thanks to Fightnight Scores for his efforts, including the spreadsheet work

Geezes, your telling me i gotta look up Dominican bantum weights now?...
Nunez, stopage, 8th.
Im right in saying if you pick decision you have a max of 10 points ay, where as you pick KO you can get 15 if you nail the round. Probably fair, round is hard, and KOs are slighly less common.... If i know nothing might as well chance the 15 points here....

I knew that I would catch some flack for this one, but both are younger, skilled, undefeated prospects taking on each other. Puerto Rican v Dominican headlining a Miami area show.
There is some info out there on them.

yea, it means i got a card to see if i can find it, and my educated opinion isnt worth much, so my uneducated opinion is probably at an advantage.. Looked at the records, nunez seems superior in that department. Always bet on the prospect with the better record, means there handlers have more faith (although it looks like theres not much faith in either).

You should leave it late, otherwise we are all going to copy your choice.

It'll be fun, if someone takes a risk for the upset and the least happens.

Nunez decision for me.....
For those who may have missed the standings spreadsheet. I'll be adding to this each week.

Leaderboard
Should be self explanatory. Shows the current leader ordered by points. The profit/loss numbers show how much people would have won with a £10 bet per pick (either 2 bets for a decision pick, or 3 bets with a stoppage/round pick). Hopefully makes sense.

Welcome to the 2022 Fight Picks Contest, Mangoraj! Thanks for participating.
FYI; including this week’s pick, there are 11 more fights that have been chosen to be included in January.
Don’t be shy! Join in on the fun!!
FYI2; obviously, this will not be just the biggest fights. In some cases, like this week, you may have to do a little digging to get info on the fighters. The idea here is to generate more interest in the current boxing scene, and to a greater depth (though not too deep).
Let’s get it on!!
