So what you guys think the reaction to an Eastman win would be. Would it be on the news and such. Would Howard Eastman suddenly become a star?

10 - 15 years ago it would be almost front page news, such as boxing has changed we have no chance, maybe a tit-bit in the back of mondays paper.

incidentally on hopkins... has everyone forgot how much trouble he was having with hoya, who in many peoples eyes lost the fight to sturm the housecat, beforethat KO punch. Pehaps a lot of boxing fans have been viewing hopkins thorugh rose tinted spectacles since trinidad?? Hopkins beat Joppy, it was a dominant performance against a limited fighter who beat eastman, well actually eastamn beat himself that night and I kow who i'd bet on if they fought again, Hops didnt set the world on fire against Allen then again against hoya .... COME ON HOWARD

any ideas if there is a rematch in the contract for when Eastman wins?

It is a mixtur of Jealosy and also a resentment his fighters are having to take real opponents to keep ahed of the opposition.

Eastman has hardly set the world alight in the last year or two has he?

He's struggled to perform against sub standard opponents!!

I'll be very shocked if Eastman wins, dont see how he can win unless Hopkins hits the wall at 40.

In all honesty, It will make my fornicating year if he wins.

Im gonna be screaming at the tv tonight, especially if Eastman goes to sleep for a while which he is prone to do. Im dying to see someone take th fight to Hopkins and try and hurt him. Rich 40 year olds can't usually take a punch. He better not sleep walk through this. Think how it would shake boxing up. It would have to make the news. I haven't been this stoked for a fight since Lewis vs Rahman 2.

If Eastmans wins the fight either by a clear points victory or stoppage a lot of people will just say.

"Full credit to Eastman, but Hopkins looked an old 40 year old fighter in there tonight"

and

"Trinidad will KO Eastman"

It would transform a little known British contendor into a big name in the sport overnight. It would be unbeleivable for British boxing and Howard would be undisputed middleweight champ....have we ever had an undisputed champ at middleweight...

Eastman has a good chance to hurt Hopkins but realistically I can't see him winning.. :(

I don't dislike the guy, but I find it hard to adore him like many British fans seem to be doing. Never had the chance to really get any idea of what he's about. Such an off-beat character. He's a bit of a weirdo. It seemed like he disappeared from the face of the earth not that long ago. Who is this man?

Terry Downes was effectively the undisputed champion too, as the WBA and IBF didn't exist yet, the WBC was the only belt.

I would not say Eastman was a weirdo, just a strong minded individual who's a bit eccentric.

The after fight interview with Merchant will be interesting. Everytime ive seen him interviewed he never answers the question and goes on talking about his own thing.

Don't get me wrong Joe, I wasn't meaning it as a slur on Howard, I actually like his eccentricity. The thing I was trying to get at was: do you think that's really the sign of a strong minded individual? You don't think that could be a mask to hide insecurities? Many of the eccentric people I know of in reality are also hermits/sociopaths and such... Howard himself disappeared for a while in this sort of style.

I see what you are saying and it's a good point. Wether Eastmans public manner is a mask is hard to say as I have never met him. Many of us, myself included act differently at different times. The KOJOE90 at work is not the same as the KOJOE90 at home or out with friends To Eastman Boxing his his job, so who knows.

To me I just get the impression that Eastman (for want of a better term) just has a slightly 'left of centre' view on life. Rather that acting that way to hide insecurities. But I really can't say for sure of course.

We may well be a little wiser in about 12 hours time.

I don't think Eastman is weak minded at all, but I don't think his self belief is founded on much. Saying you are going to win and really knowing how to do so are two very different things. I think Eastman avoids the pertinent questions often because he doesn't have positive answers.

When all is said and done, I hope I am wrong and Eastman wins.

one thing I noticed which is odd, is that the Americans seem to think that Eastman is an aggressive banger, I have always thought of Howard as more of a counterpuncher myself, who looks for openings rather than creating them, am i mad?
