Like it says in the title, which boxers had the best career after they suffered a first round loss.

Without too much thought, I'd say Floyd Patterson did well after the Liston fights.

Any thoughts fellas? Alp, you must have one or two in that cranium of yours. :TU:

Amir Khan is the obvious one.

A lot of people thought that "Mairis" Breidis Prescott was the end of him, but his career really took off after that loss.

I'll see your Amir Khan (good call by the way) and raise you Jack Dempsey. Jack lost in a round to Jim Flynn on his way up and went on to be the man. My late father said Jack threw that fight, but hey, who knows.

Let's do it. I'm flexible. Joe Bugner also springs to mind.

Would probably have to go with Jack Dempsey. Lost to Fireman Flynn in the firs round. (there were allegations of a dive which Dempsey always denied.) Dempsey avenged the defeat beat several contenders and went on to become one of the great heavyweight champions.

Max Schmeling might be worth mentioning. Lost to Gypsy Daniels in the first round. Later avenged the defeat, won the title and later beat Joe Louis.

I remembered Dempsey, but forgot about Max. I'm sure there is someone at a lower weight, but I can't for the life of me remember who.

Not quite what you asked for but the guy that inflicted the 1st and 2nd losses on Roman Gonzales was 0-2-1 in his fist 3 fights with both losses by ko.

Obviously not a "great" but Cornelius Bundrage was 21-0 before being stopped in one by Sechew Powell. Bundrage went on to be IBF champ.

Badou Jack was undefeated (16-0-1) and was stopped in one by little known Derek Edwards. Jack went on to win titles and fight some big names and so far has never been stopped since.

Sandy Saddler was stopped in the 3rd round of his second fight. He did pretty well after that and was never stopped again in his next 143 bouts.

Not first round but still...

Honourable mention-
knocked out in the first round of their second pro fight
( and as far as I know again even knocked off of their feet afterwadrs in rest of their pro career)
