Obviously nothing confirmed yet but talk of Tim fighting former USA Olympian Terrell Gausha on the Charlo v Castana rematch. Tough fight for Tim as Gausha is 22-2-1. His 2 losses were unanimous decisions to Erickson Lubin and Esklandy Lara and drew with Austin Trout. Obviously a win gives him a crack at the winner of the main event but it is no walk in the park.

Rising super-welterweight contender Tim Tszyu makes his long-awaited American debut when he takes on U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha over 12 rounds on March 26 at The Armory in Minneapolis.
"Once I take care of Gausha, I will be coming for the title,” says Tszyu.

Everyone saying this is a good step up for Tim, but the bookies have him at $1.08 to win this title eliminator. Is there something im missing here?

Its not a massive step up. It may not even be a step up overall, but its a good tough fight for him to be taking for his overseas debut (NZ dosent count)....

Tim opened at 1.18... much closer, but he is so poular and rated that he has been bet into a very heavy favorite
Tszyu has been remarkable in his opponent selections. Many in his position wont take a fight closer than being 1.05 for ages.

Non of the fights were close in the end, but the bookies thought they were live fights when they first published there odds.

long way from home, fighting us olympian who's never been stopped and had a good performance in his last fight. gausha also respectable is his loss to lubin (hurt him pretty bad at one stage) and clearly deserved the win rather than a draw vs trout. all factors considered, i defo rate this as the biggest test yet, i'd pick gausha over the versions of anyone tim's beat so far

with tim's hype his odds are generally going to be inflated

Perhaps the bookies have underestimated Tim.

at those odds he's asking why tim is such a wide favourite if ppl think it's a good step up. he's certainly not so wide because the bookies underestimate him!

Gaucha was in the Olympics 10 years ago. Tszyu has the advantage of youth. Both of Gaucha's losses were recent.

yep, part of why tim is a big favourite

tim dropped in the first by a clean straight right, then dominates the remainder of the fight, having gausha look close to a stoppage several times. amazingly the scores were somehow only 114-113, 115-112, and 116-111 for tim, in a fight that showtime had him winning 118-109 (as did i). every card other than the judges that ive seen has been 118-109 or 117-110. judges were smoking something funky. make no mistake if you see those cards and think it was close, it was a beatdown.

the good - tim is a physically strong guy, good engine, heavy hands. good mix of power shots - to the body, to the head, up the middle, around the guard. though doesnt have much of a jab. although his movement didnt look very fast, he easily cut off the ring too.

needs work - he was standing straight up and barely moving his head, making him easy to hit at times and leading to the knockdown. he had gausha looking primed for a stoppage as early as the 4th, but never stepped it up enough to get the finish. he was steady, but didnt show that extra finishing explosiveness, and also smothered himself at times.

I seriously can't believe people think this was a shut-out barring the first round. Rounds 2, 3, 9, 10 and 11 could've gone either way and TT ate waaaay too many punches to worry the elite boxers at SWW.

The good - he's now had a taste of the states and faced serious adversity with the first round knock-down. His mental game is pretty good.

The bad - he could've got leather poisoning with the amount of jabs he ate. I'm hoping he was walking down Gausha with no head movement because in his mind he felt Gausha didn't have the power to KO him and wasn't sucked in by ego and adrenalin. Because if he fights like that against the big fish he's going to learn a hard lesson.
