Jermell gets my respect more because he's fought the best of the best

If Jermell Charlo beats Brian Castano, then he becomes a dead-cert future Hall-of-Famer, because he would have cleaned-out an entire era of 154lb-ers.

Jermall’s Hall-of-Fame induction is less certain, but he might become one if he eventually captures a title at 168lbs.

In terms of general comparisons:

• Jermell Charlo is faster, has faced superior opposition, and is better at competing on the back-foot in comparison to his brother.

• Jermall Charlo’s chin is very tough, is better at being more aggressive and engaging in exchanges when he’s faced with an opponent capable of fighting back. And he is also better at staying focussed than his overly-passionate and occasionally-frustrated brother.

One caveat though: the likes of GGG and Canelo refused to defend their WBC 160lbs titles against Jermall Charlo. So he isn’t entirely to blame for the lack of marquee 160lb-ers on his resume.

I tend to support Jermell, because unlike his brother, he’s facing the very best fighters competing in his own weight class.

Like all top-tier world-rated middleweights, Jermall Charlo, has become risk-averse, because it’s far too costly to take significant risks for small purses, due to potentially missing-out on the Canelo mega-payday.

Those are my thoughts anyway. I suspect most people with disagree with them, but it is what it is.

Mell fights the best at 154 equally to Canelo at 168, during the weaker eras of these divisions. Fighters there aren't big draws, it's easy to sign against them and to unify.

Look how Mell got championship fights against the small draws of the 154 and how Mall can't unify at the higher weight.

Canelo also had a history of negotiations at the MW, while at 168 everyone was happy to sign on the suggested terms, because they were tiny draws.

I get it. It still is not as easy as us talking about it, or Jermell would not be rematching Castano.

And Castano showed exactly that the former title-holders had been so-so. Well, soon we'll se how it ends in the rematch.

154 was weak tbf, its just the truth not a diss on mell really. mell won his 3 belts by beating banana rosario (one of the worst unified champs in a while), tony harrison, and john jackson.

but mell and mall are both really good. unfortuntely mall's career has gotten super boring though

Wasn't he like losing every round to John Jackson too?

We really did want to see the Hurd fight at the time..
