Someone said in the Facebook comments that the ex-pro in this video is John Wesley Meekins however it doesn't look like him to me, any ideas?

Hmm doesn’t look like him but maybe it is? The lad he fights actually does well against him, although if it was Meekins he would’ve been about 49 in 2014 and retired from boxing for 20 years
if it's not meekins, could maybe be someone who is exaggerating their importance and really only sparred taylor, fought him in the amateurs, or fought him in an obscure pro fight........rather than being some sort of title challenger
or if meekins really did do street boxing in the area and was known for it locally, maybe they are pretending to be him ? try to piggyback off his reputation?
it's kinda hard to make out the facial features in the video and twitter photo, but the fact that there are previous mentions of meekins boxing in the street still make him the #1 contender for me

Yes maybe it is, without the moustache, bald and 20+ years older he would look different. Sad way to make his money and I'm amazed the police allow it to be honest, especially on concrete!!

You know for a fact or you just don't think it is? Saying that looking at Meekins box his style looks different to the guy in that video so maybe someone pretending to be him.

If you mean that I have personally checked his ID? No. It's just that the guy in the video does not resemble Meekins at all.
No I just wondered if you knew Meekins was living elsewhere or doing something else as you seem quite confident it’s not him. I didn’t think it was him either but his style not the same anyway.

He doesn't say his name but said he lost against Meldrick Taylor for the junior welterweight title, so the only other guy who it could be is Courtney Hooper if true.

I think he's just a local wannabe, really.
Yeah maybe, a bit odd that he’s so specific about fighters he was around as most people wouldn't have a clue who they are, with the exception of Tyson. If he fought Taylor he would be in his late 40s now too and I'm not sure he looks that old.

I , also, doubt this is Meekins in the above photo. I've been re- watching some of Meekins' bouts lately; he never lived up to the expectations that were placed on him by people like Teddy Brenner.

It's definitely not Meekins. It could be Sammy Young, a New Yorker who fought Meekins.

Here is a video of the guy. In another photo he was said to be 53 in 2019 (so around 59 now) so a similar age to Meekins but they don't appear to be the same person.
In the comments of this video it has the below (assuming this is true)
"That dude has been boxing any who wants to for years!! I first boxed him when I was 18 and I'm 30 now, don't know his full story tho, he has a couple screws loose (perhaps PTSD, think he was a Army veteran who even lost his gym at one point if I remember correctly) but him and his wife (she's white, perhaps Irish or Italian idk) are good people, they even used to train little kids every where from Harlem to Brooklyn for free back in the day."
