Boxer Scott Fitzgerald denies rape allegation as court trial date set

Undefeated Commonwealth champion boxer Scott Fitzgerald appeared in Preston Crown Court on Tuesday to deny one count of rape with a trial date set for early next year

Boxing star Scott Fitzgerald has denied raping a woman when appearing at Preston Crown Court on Tuesday morning (May 10).

The undefeated British super-welterweight champion, 30, is alleged to have raped a woman - who can not be identified for legal reasons - in April 2020. Fitzgerald was summoned to court on Tuesday morning but pleaded not guilty to a single count of rape.

Lancashire Live report the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist spoke only to confirm and enter his not guilty plea. Fitzgerald will now stand trial on March 3 2023 with Judge Richard Gioserano granting him bail on the condition he does not contact the woman who made the complaint of rape against him.

Fitzgerald's last fight came as he beat Gregory Trenel last May with the 30-year-old having been unbeaten in his 15-fight career.

He was the Commonwealth Games champion in 2014 and had been the British champion since beating Ted Cheeseman by unanimous decision in Newcastle in October 2019, before he relinquished the title in November 2020.

Following that win, he said: “I was far from happy with it, but I definitely won the last three, maybe four rounds. I definitely fell behind (early). I had to drag it out of myself.”

Fitzgerald turned professional in 2016 and has won ten of his bouts by knockout, while also gaining points victories over the likes of Anthony Fowler.

Well according to him the guy was tougher than he thought he'd be but he came out on top

Never really got the love for Fitzgerald, I know Fowler rubs some people up the wrong way for whatever reason but still no reason for the dick riding Fitzgerald gets on twitter, knew he was a wrong un after some of the comments he made about Fowler's Mrs in the build up, can't remember specifics but he took it too far and I personally don't sympathise with him, especially if he's a rapist, fck him

Can't remember what it was either but sure it was something along the lines of her being a slapper, not 100%, whatever it was Fitzgerald crossed the line
