"Klitschko brothers added to Vladimir Putin’s 24-man ‘kill list’"

Boxing legends Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko have been added to a list of high-profile Ukrainians included on Vladimir Putin’s ‘kill list’.

Following the Russian president’s decision to launch an invasion last week, according to The Times, highly-trained mercenaries, including the private militia the Wagner Group, have been sent to Kyiv in order to take out Putin’s main targets.

The brothers, both former world heavyweight boxing champions, have officially joined the Ukrainian military to fight against the Russians and saw no option but to take up arms and help the resistance.

‘It’s already a bloody war. I don’t have another choice, I have to do that. I’ll be fighting,’ the 50-year-old Vitali, who has been mayor of Kyiv since 2014, told ITV’s Good Morning Britain last week.

Wladimir, the younger of the two, added via a post on Linkedin: ‘Putin makes it clear that he wants to destroy the Ukrainian state and the sovereignty of its people.

‘Words are followed by missiles and tanks. Destruction and death come upon us. That’s it, blood will mix with tears… We will defend ourselves with all our might and fight for freedom and democracy.’

Current heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk has also joined Ukraine’s territorial defence forces to defend his country against the Russian invasion.

Reigning IBF, WBO and WBA champion Usyk left London last week to return to his homeland, pleading with Russian president Vladimir Putin to put a halt to the war in a passionate message shared on social media.

The 35-year-old has now taken up arms with TSN reporting the champion has joined the Kyiv Territorial Defense.

Andriy Nebytov, head of the national police in Kyiv, shared an image of Usyk dressed in military attire and carrying an assault rifle alongside the message: ‘United for one purpose – to protect our homeland. To victory!’

The Sun, meanwhile, reports that the militia group tasked with taking out the Klitschkos, will act when and if Putin’s negotiations with Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskyy, also a primary target, fail.

Analysing the effectiveness of the notorious Wagner Group, Sir Richard Barrons, former commander of Joint Forces Command, told The Times: ‘They are very effective because they are hard to pin down.

‘They can appear from the shadows, do very violent things and then disappear again, without it being obvious who was responsible. They are not directly linked to the Russian government and therefore they are plausibly deniable.’

Thoughts?

I do not agree with the Western assertion that Russia is the aggressor here. NATO and the West also bear a good amount of responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine.

Having said that, I 100% sympathize with any loss of life in this conflict, on all sides, civilian and servicemen. I do wish absolute safety to the people of Ukraine and the Klitschko Brothers.

Political agreements and disagreements aside, this is not a dispute the Ukrainians can win. Kiev is going to fall. There will be an ongoing Ukrainian insurgency, but officially, the city will fall within days maybe even within 1 day. Russia is a World Military Superpower and has far superior weaponry. It's not a "fair fight" for the Ukrainians to defend themselves and surely, the Klitschkos and Ukrainian establishment has to know that.

God Bless the Klitschko Brothers, they are as tough as they come and every man should respect what they are doing even if you don't agree with it. That said, if you're fighting a losing fight, you are better off laying down your arms than sacrificing yourself. Live to carry on the fight in another way on a different medium. We all have principles, but it doesn't make someone less of a man for putting their own life above those principles.

I pray calm decisions will be made and I wish the Klitschko Brothers absolute safety. Real shame that things have progressed to this point. No need for anyone to go out on their shield in a one sided fight. If you're in an overmatched fight, better to put down your arms and live another day.

Vitali Klitschko about 24 Hours ago said Russian forces had encircled Kiev, cutting off evacuation routes and any possible supplies.

Agree. I think that there is much more to this than Putin woke up in a rage and launched an attack on the Ukraine.

I just hope and pray the situation can be resolved ASAP and innocent Ukrainian people are no longer the sacrificial lambs of a political war.

Great post.

Even the mercenary WBC would never sanction Russia v Ukraine if it was a fight.

I agree that NATO has definitely pushed their agenda a tad too far, but innocent civilians being targeted is not justifiable.

Any legitimate news agencies picking this up?

Not a world news expert, but it seems many of the sites featuring this are questionable sources.

I can provide links to multiple news websites reporting the same story.

I honestly don’t know if they’re daisy-chaining, by reporting the same story, with the information obtained from other websites, or whether they’ve received information from a direct reliable source.

The thing is… it seems that the Klitschko’s are indeed fighting on the front line, which means they’re already in harm’s way.

The Klitschko brothers inspire their fellow countrymen to defend Ukraine.

So I can only assume the Russian army would target them.

But I could be wrong, because propaganda and media bias are two things that everyone surely knows exists.

This conflict is on. You can only push and intimidate people so far before the gloves come off. The Klitschkos will not give a tinker’s cuss about some assassins, whatever they may call themselves.

"I do not agree with the Western assertion that Russia is the aggressor here. NATO and the West also bear a good amount of responsibility for what is happening in Ukraine."

And people agree with you?

Who do you think is the aggressor then?
NATO is a defensive alliance. This basis for the alliance (since 1949) has never been broken.

Then you need to start spreading the truth to anyone you can in Russia as their TV is spouting lies and propaganda blaming Ukraine and making up stories to suit Putin.
Innocent civilians are now being shot and bombed - Reuters states 2000 so far including children / medical staff / ambulance drivers etc

I left Russia long time ago, Lenny. I must admit I know a couple of Russians living in the West and still believing Putin is doing the right thing. They aren't the majority though...

Likely fake news - I highly doubt Putin wants the optics of celebrity Klitschkos' heads on sticks.

Anyone trying to spin that somehow Putin is doing the right thing or somehow the good guy, is mentally twisted or brainwashed.

Innocent civilians are dying from a non provoked attack by a major power on a sovereign country. Worst thing the world has seen in 80 yrs.

Usyk and Loma have joined the fight too, as some of you may know.

Ukraine side has killed civilians also - not just recently, but dating back years. Nobody on here has said Putin is a good guy. But the entire region is highly corrupt - and it's no big surprise the US isn't blameless in the matter.

Potential is a different thing altogether. The world has lived with unimaginably bad potential since the Manhattan Project. But in terms of what's actually happened so far, I don't think these current events are even the worst thing *Moscow* has done in 80 years. And so far as being "a non provoked attack by a major power on a sovereign country," you don't even have to look back past the turn of the millennium to find other examples of that.

Actually a good point here. Didnt pass UN (Russia+China).
