Both Makhmudov and Beterbiev are Muslims who support Chechen independence from Russia.
Definitely not fair to them. They are not ethnic Russians and definitely not fans of Putin.

so then what happens with a guy like bert who has the wbc and ibf? does he get to keep those belts? does this now count as a period of inactivity for him and could he be stripped?
could smith still win the ibf/wbc?

It may not be fair, but when nations are threatened with nuclear destruction, some things are bigger and more important than the sport.Perkin Warbeck wrote: ↑01 Mar 2022, 18:14

We must be more united and stronger and NOT allow to be bullied and decimated by a sovietic psychopath regime!

Could the Canelo-Bivol fight be cancelled due to the pressure from the media for staging a marquee sporting event involving a Russian?
Would viewers and potential ringside seat buyers boycott the event?

But the decision is stupid and pointless. For example Makhmudov lives in Canada, and all his 14 fights were in Canada. Why are they punishing him? Just for being born at some place, something over which he has no control of? It's absurd, and completely unfair.Bandog wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 15:47It may not be fair, but when nations are threatened with nuclear destruction, some things are bigger and more important than the sport.Perkin Warbeck wrote: ↑01 Mar 2022, 18:14

Allowing boxers to box would not be "being bullied by a regime." It isn't a decision that accomplishes anything meaningful.

The media regard meaningless virtue signals as being deeply significant gestures, to the point that those that actively refrain from participating in nonsense actions as worthy of being “cancelled”, such as those that refused to take the knee.

Absolutely pathetic.
