Anthony Joshua says he would beat Joe Joyce in one round if the British heavyweights fought

Joshua could be looking for a new opponent with his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in doubt after the Ukrainian returned home to help fight against Russia's invasion; "I boxed Otto Wallin twice as youngsters & I boxed Joe and stopped him in 1 round. I'd do the same thing today!"

Anthony Joshua says he would knock out fellow British heavyweight Joe Joyce in one round if they were to be matched against each other.

Joshua could be seeking a new opponent with his world title rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in doubt after the Ukrainian returned home to help fight against Russia's invasion.

Joshua activated a rematch clause to fight again for the WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles after Usyk stunned him last September, but it is unclear when the Ukrainian will be ready to return to the ring.

Responding on Wednesday to posts on Twitter, Joshua dismissed the chances both Joyce and fellow heavyweight Otto Wallin would have against him, pointing to victories he had over both of them at amateur level.

Joshua wrote: "You really think I wouldn't fight @JoeJoyceBoxing?

"Lol ok … I've shared this ring with most people you see in the heavyweight division today!

"I boxed Otto Wallin twice as youngsters & I boxed Joe and stopped him in 1 round. I'd do the same thing today! Ain't nothing changed."

Joshua was responding to a post that quoted Wallin's promoter Dmitry Salita, saying that the Swedish heavyweight is the "most intriguing" opponent for the two-time world champion.

Joshua and Joyce are both former Olympic medallists, with Joshua having won gold at super heavyweight at London 2012 before Joyce took silver in the same weight class four years later in Rio de Janeiro.

Joyce, who is undefeated with 12 knockouts from his 13 victories, last fought in July 2021, beating Carlos Takam by knockout at Wembley Arena.

carlos takam was catching joyce , can't see why aj wouldn't could see aj beating him around 8 but wouldn't be surprised if joyce won either to be fair

I think Joyce KO's AJ. AJ is more versatile of a boxer by a bit, Joyce however is a relentless tough, powerful guy who hits pretty hard.

Remember what Andy Ruiz brought to the table that beat AJ the first time around? Well Joyce does that stuff except better.

I think AJ wipes out Joyce fairly easily. Joyce is just too easy to hit at times and I can’t see him avoiding shots in the early rounds.

Agree, either that or he hurts his hand on Joyce's head. AJ would have to come in lean and mobile, like he did for Ruiz 2. And just hit Joyce and move out of range. Given AJ's height and reach, out of range is only a half step. The long 1-2 from AJ can't miss I feel.

Joshua is washed up. He's losing by ko in his next fights. Can't pull the trigger and has a weak chin he's delusional if he thinks he can beat Joyce easily.

AJ still hits very very very hard and Joe gets hit a very very very lot . Unless AJ is completely shot I don't think he's gonna be walking through AJs punches the way he has others, AJ will be by far the hardest puncher he's fought

Dubois’ a big puncher and couldn’t really land much but I think that’s just as much down to Dubois’ lack of quality fights before then, i.e. he fought mostly guys with padded records and easy to hit, rather than Joe’s elusive movements.

Good fight, if AJ boxes like ruiz 2 he wins. If he brawls probably breeze block head takes him

It's really really odd how we view AJ the last three years or so. Wasnt too far a distant memory we had him as a definitive world beater where no aforementioned opposition would've stood in his way. Now its touch and go whether he could best Joyce. Think his talent and particularly his willing to go to the trenches definitely need to be scrutinised, but man did we ever overrate someone as much as we did AJ.

-aj ko'd whyte, breazeale , and martin just 2.5 years after turning pro. ppl joked about martin, yet he nearly ko'd wilders best win, and breazeale is prob still among the best 3 guys wilder's beat.

-aj spent loads of time as #1 or #2 in the world, and been top 5 almost his whole career

-aj has the deepest resume in the division, beating wlad, povetkin, parker, pulev, whyte, ruiz, takam, martin, breazeale

-still the only guy to lay out kevin johnson. even fighting at the high level that he has from nearly the start, has managed kos in 22 of 24 wins. people always rag on his power and say it's nothing comared to wilder's, but he's actually ko'd 2 of their 3 common opponents faster and is obviously a very heavy hitter

-scheduled immediate rematches with both guys to beat him, instead of 'rebuilding' with patsies


basically, aj has had a great career. he was moved very ambitiously from the start and has been an elite world level heavy for years. ya comes across as a bit of a goof at times, has some joke team members, and has his vulnerabilities, but people risk going too far in underrating him now.

People opinions change when they see someone lose and how they lose I guess.

Also, we’ve seen AJ in a lot of positions where he’s struggled, been KD, come back, Laing a round, out boxed.

That last fight though.. it wasn’t a good luck.

Didn’t look like he wanted to be in there mid way through.

AJ should land too much, too hard and too early for Joyce to get past 6. But you can certainly see Joyce wearing him out if it goes to the championship rounds. He has much the better stamina and I don't think AJ can keep him off on the backfoot all night like he did the much shorter Ruiz.

Maybe stopped standing if anything.

AJ can get tired too. But I’m sure they’d have a good game plan.
