Eddie Hearn makes official offer for Andy Ruiz Jr vs Derek Chisora, but says Al Haymon’s PBC want ‘more money’

Eddie Hearn has revealed that he’s now made an official offer to Andy Ruiz Jr’s representatives for a fight with Derek Chisora next.

Chisora is now 38 and on a run of three consecutive defeats – to Oleksandr Usyk and Joseph Parker, twice.

However, he has insisted that he intends to keep fighting following his most recent loss to Parker.

There has even been talk of Chisora facing Deontay Wilder, though his own coach Dave Coldwell opined that he did not want to see this happen.

Now, the suggestion of a bout with Ruiz Jr has emerged.

On Twitter, the Mexican-American asked: “Who should I fight next? Let me see in the comments.”

Chisora replied: “Want to come to London?”

Matchroom promoter Hearn has revealed that he’s submitted an official offer to try and make this a reality.

“When is Chisora out next?” Hearn said, “I wanna make Chisora against Andy Ruiz Jr.

“I made PBC an offer for that fight on Friday.

“They want more money, understood.

“But I wanna make Chisora vs Ruiz, that’s a great fight.”

Ruiz Jr has fought just once since his rematch defeat to Anthony Joshua in 2019.

He took 18 months out of the ring and then returned with new trainer Eddy Reynoso in May 2021.

Ruiz Jr was floored by Chris Arreola in this fight, but got up and ultimately won on points.

It was hoped that he would build on this momentum and quickly return to the ring again, but this has turned out not to be the case.

Instead, in August, Ruiz Jr underwent surgery on his right knee to deal with long-standing issues that he’d been struggling with for the last three years.

As a result, he has not fought since the Arreola bout and still does not have anything scheduled.

He is now back in the gym though, and little-known coach Alfredo Osuna has posted clips of himself taking Ruiz Jr on the pads.

Why would Al want big money when this should be a routine win for Ruiz? It's a perfect comeback fight for Ruiz fighting against a old shopworn fighter who he should look good against.

I agree with you here. Del should fight a soft touch after all the tough fights he's been taking but the problem is he doesn't want to as he loves being the main event in big fights.

It wouldn't be on PPV it'd be on DAZN like the Parker fight.

If the expenses included Snickers on demand that equates to around £3.4m. Fair offer imo.

Ruiz (reportedly) got £1m for the arreola fight. Chisora 2.5m for Parker 2.

I do not see that going well for Chisora

Interesting fight I would say - stylewise I think Chisora is taylor made for Ruiz's slow legs. However, we don't know 1) Really how good Ruiz is and 2) What condition Ruiz will be in and if that is of benefit

Chris Arreola is, lets be honest, a pretty poor fighter who has been incredibly lucky to have world title fights - poor defence, poor condition and is getting older. He gave Ruiz fits - and perhaps it was the weight loss that impacted on his performance.

I think we are still possibly holding too much onto the first AJ fight - he was losing up and got nearly KTFO himself before he landed a humdinger which changed the course of the fight and AJ aint got good stamina anyway as we have since seen.

Chisora will test the power and stamina of Ruiz if nothing else.

Is Chisora starting to edge into the Danny Williams zone? Becoming something of a strong punchbag.

Not quite yet - perhaps another wide points defeat and we start to question it. At the moment I feel people are more inclined to go down the "improvements in Parker" as opposed to "Chisora has slowed up" mode and only a fight ago people thought he should have beaten a top 10 Heavyweight.

I would also say Danny Williams was never a "punch bag" - he just couldn't take a shot. Actually for the moments he is up he is comeptitive, but it doesn't take alot for him to do a funny dance.

Presuming that he earned an absolute fortune for AJ in Saudi, will a million turn his head?

He made huge money for the AJ fight, but prior to that he’d never made more than half a million.
A million got him into the ring to fight arreola last time out.

I’m sure he’s holding out for more that a million but where and against who does he get it if not here

He made $7m the first time against AJ.

He also bought a big house too.

Hardly broke the bank. Made it all back in the rematch no doubt.
