"Top Rank inks Devin Haney"

WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney has reportedly dropped Matchroom/DAZN and signed on to a multi-fight co-promotional pact with Top Rank and DiBella Entertainment.

This means ESPN, which is aligned with Top Rank, will air Haney’s June 5 showdown with undisputed champion George Kambosos in Melbourne, Australia.

The Kambosos-Haney deal includes a rematch clause for Kambosos should he lose.

Thoughts?

I always thought that Devin Haney worked with Matchroom/DAZN on a per fight basis anyway, a bit like Dillian Whyte.

Also, from Matchroom & DAZN’s perspective, since they recently admitted to placing less emphasis in the US territory, it doesn’t surprise me to see them doing a bit of housekeeping, reducing their roster of American fighters.

And to be fair, DAZN’s three-fight deal with Canelo is worth far more than the combined total of their previous contracts with released talents, such as the likes of Michael Hunter, Danny Jacobs, Demetrius Andrade and Devin Haney.

Is this a real multi fight contract. Or is it This fight plus the rematch clause.

Wounded for Ed on this one. Have Dev in the paper belt era, lose him when he may well enter the Undisputed Era. Ed got haney a good 2021, but just couldent get him respect, can see why he has moved on.

It’s probably like.

One fight deal, a part of that deal, IF Haney wins, that’s sets up another Top Rank fight, and if he wins the rematch, he has a PPV showdown with Loma.

There will always be clauses.

I remember when Alvarez beat Kovalev.

Top Rank signed him officially, multi fight deal.

$1m purse guarantee as long as he walks to the ring as champion.

If he loses, his further fights as part of the deal, he’ll be on a $250k base purse.

It’s like setting a contract, within a contract.

Sets up an in house fight between Haney and Loma, after Haney beats Kambosis.

Unless Haney moves up.

Haney is a dude who wants big fights and is doing what is necessary to get them. He's not one of these fraudsters who talks for 15 years but fights no one

Gotta respect Haney, I think he is better than Kambo but is up against it...

gotta get 2 wins, away, without power so probably relying on judges. If he dosent he is beltless and even if he does he will basically have to drop the belts and move up anyway, he is a big boy, would be tough for him to stay 135 and cash in on the belts with Loma, Tank and Garcia (who will be 140 by then anyway.).

One thing if your a big hitter, you can back your self to to get stops. But when your a more decision guy, you realisticaly have to aim to win 9-3 or better twice in a row to have a good chance of winning both.

One thing that affects guys like Haney, Teo, Spence is the loss of power after melting down to weight. I think all 3 will be better after they move up.
