other guys dont look all that spectacular or anything, but are really pinpoint and connect on almost everything. bhop even in his late 40s and slower than most opponents and almost entirely 1 punch at a time could land at will on a lot of them

what are the keys to accurate punching? who are the most accurate around?

timing

A combination of timing and technical execution.

Tszyu putting Judah on canvas is a great example of an accurate punch. He didn't only throw in perfect time, he also threw a punch with unusual trajectory, according to Judah's repetitive defensive move of pulling his head and upper body backwards.

Definitely delivery, a lot of non punchers don't throw with same delivery as bangers, don't turn their fists in or plant their feet, even Mike Tyson wouldn't be knocking out many people with the style of Sunny Edwards


It's like Ricky Burns, without coming across like im slating a 3 weight world champ whilst sat on the sofa, still in my work gear with a bottle of Peroni, I love Burns and although he didn't mind a scrap his throwing technique was pretty poor and explains why he didn't knock more guys out

I was rewatching the BamRod- Cuadras fight last night (again ) and one thing I noticed was how often Bam was able to land clean after using his head and body movement to feint Cuadras into bad positions that Bam took advantage of. Basically snake charmed him with the movement and popped him with the shot when the opportunity came up. The movement was clearly playing into his ability to land accurately.

bam looks the goods, hope he's straight in sor or roman or jfe next

The tall southpaw? I had a quick glance, watched 4 or 5rds I think was a bit ‘distracted’. He was falling over his front foot too often when he threw the left hand but other than that he looked good IIRC

He didn’t hit me like BamRod did. BamRod makes me make little girly noises with all sorts of stuff, the footwork, the body movement, jab, punch selection, and the totally compact and concise way he rotates hands and shoulders to deflect shots. He’s a fucken dream boat

If your opponent shouted every punch they were about to throw, how easy would it be to counter them? Hop was in with the best in his day, and was later able to outrelax lesser opponents from that experience.

It's like the spectator seeing more of the game because we're not psychologically invested, with a massive wake-up if we get in the ring and expect to carry as much insight under duress. So the calmer we can be, the closer we are to those neutral eyes that give us the best reads.

And obviously it helps a ton to have really fast hands! But those are nothing without good reads, lures and setups.

junto and bam are both studs......junto i think more of a 'raw' talent but not quite as refined (can get a tad wild/excited).....got that big physical presence, really fast hands, and a bigger puncher. reminds me a bit of a young pac.

but bam more composed and tighter technically. probably more layers to his game.

Bams head always moving within the width of his shoulders and his feet always under him, you’re right Junto overcommits and overbalances sometimes just like younger PAC

Bhops, Mayweather and Toney also hid the right hand behind the shoulder roll so you couldn't see it coming.

That’s a good point. Pernell Whitaker did the same with his left hand by blading off his right shoulder

Reading distance for me. You can have great power, timing and speed… but if you’re too close or too far away when throwing then you are missing.
All the best fighters know how to judge distance.
