I work in a Gamestop and got an early demo of the game and Hatton is on the cover of the UK version and I swear with the pose he has, it is the single ugliest game cover in computer game history.
On the demo you could only fight 3 rounds of one fight and it was Ricky Hatton against Bernard Hopkins and by the plays I've had of it, it's a big improvement on the first installment. The clinching and the ability to box and block on the move make it much more realistic and the actual dynamics of the game seem to be much, much smoother and the new commentators are far less irritating than Big Tigger.

Hopefully this can develope into a regular EA sports Franchise, just like Tiger Woods, Fifa etc.
At the moment though, I see they are hedging their bets by calling it 'round 2' which means they won't neccesarily bring out a new one each year.
I hope they've sorted the training out too, I hate the way you don't have any choice about what sort of training you do, and the way training just goes up and up, there should be more tailoring to different types of fighter. It's daft the way you can start out with no power and end up with all the guages full. After a while training should just be to maintain your fitness. It would also be good if you got offered a title shot when you're not ready for a paday.
They also need to bring in different trainers who you can hire who augment certain types of training, it would make the career mode better.
Another feature which they lost from KOK 2001, was that you could choose a particular punch as your best one. I always prefer throwing straight punches, but in Fight night, they do fornicate all damage.
The special moves are also wank compared to KOK 2001. They are all for show, they had nice moves like double left hooks at so on in the earlier iterations.
I'm glad they brought clinching back, because losing that feature was a bit dumb, it made inside fighting too manic.
I'm really looking forward to this one. Yeeehah!
Knockout King 2001 was actually better than the last installment, except the graphics weren't as good.

Looks a bit like Hatton that does, are there any blown up late 30s super feathers in the game to match him with? ;) ;) ;)

What Heavyweights are on it? Are the Klitschkos on it?

On the back of the demo cover I have it lists a feature to customise your physique to dominate your next opponent and it shows a before and after pic with Roy Jones Jr, the before has him looking bloated and Fat Albert like and the second has him still kinda big but buff and sort of in fighting shape. Beside this it has a list of stats with arrows pointing whether they go up or down so I assume this is an improvemet to the training system.
One thing I'd like to see done away with is the automatic retirement. I'd like it that if you hit a certain age then instead of retiring your stats start to go down as age catches up with you and you have to hold onto your spot with declining ability and then if you lose a couple of fights badly then maybe the boxing commision take away your liscense and force you to retire.

Yeah, I cannot see any reason for that either in gameplay or technical terms, I seem to recall that once you beat all the top fighters, it automatically retired you, and if I remember rightly it
They should have ageing, and allow fighters to carry on for as long as your want, that way you could have an Archie Moore type fighter where you're so good at the game you can still win with declining abilities.
What they could also do is make it that training is harder,
I think the customise thing is just to do with shaping your character, it just gives you access to the same tools the designers have for building the fighters.
The career mode isn't bad, but it's obvious they haven't got people with real knowledge about boxing involved on it. If they did the career mode would be a whole lot better. It's too linear at the moment. They need more surprises in the career mode.
Apparently the AI is a lot better in this version from what I've read, it wasn't too bad in the last version, though there were as few loopholes.

I wonder how much the boxers get paid for featuring in the game?

The choice of Heavyweights are the same as the last one just without Lennox!

Why are there so few at light heavyweight? What about Archie Moore, Bob Foster, Dick Tiger, etc?
The middleweight selection is pathetic! Christ almighty what about Tony Zale, Marcel Cerdan.
Anyone who is already dead costs nothing to put in the game, so why don't they put more old timer fighters in for the boxing fans who buy the game.

James you are looking at this with boxing fan eyes mate
who buys computer games mainlty bout 80% of the market. 12-20 year olds.
Of which how many are liekly to be boxing officianados, probably 5% if that.
most wouldnt even know who Marcel Cedan was let alone it be a selling point for a game.
its only us sad old fucks that buy anything boxing related and want more in depth which account for probably 5 % of sales and we will buy it anyway.
In a nutshell who sells the game more Holyfield or Jack johnson.

I think you're wrong J, I think you will find a high proportion of the people who buy Fight Night are in fact boxing fans, I would estimate around 20-30%, and those people are likely to buy every iteration of the game as it comes out.
In any case, Nobody needs to know who Marcel Cerdan is, those who know who he is will be pleased to see him in there.
The only reason not to include him is the fact you need to have someone to do the modelling, but seeing as all that consists of is a texture for the face, that's hardly a big deal. The bodies are all built using a sculpture editor to create the fighter,
Using more old timers would definetly enhance the game, and adds to the sense of cohesion of the title, which is one of the single most important criteria when developing games.
A game is effectively a little virtual world, and those little touches make a difference.
Look at Gran Turismo, a hugely successful franchise, and why? Because of the attention to detail, every driving game enthusiast in the world went out and bought that title.

sorry i dont concur.

Well, sorry to pull rank, but I worked in games design for 10 years, and the fact is that the most successful titles are those which have attention to detail, especially as a franchise.
As far as I recall, Gran Turismo is the most successful driving game to date or was last time I checked, and it is also the most detailed by far.
The trick is to pitch your game so that novices and casual players can pick it up and thrash away in a basic mode, and those who are going to play the fornicate out of it have a good career mode with lots of options.
They are getting closer, but I'm sorry having 5 fighters in the middleweight division is crap. The middleweights is one of the most talent packed of all time, and yet they have the least in that division.

Also, the playstation demographic is more like 14-30 year olds. Games are no longer just the plaything of teenagers.
Nintendo probably have a demographic more in line with what you are talking about.

I wonder if they've downgraded Jones Jr's chin this time? It was like 99 or something before wasnt it? :P :P

Now you're just being contrary.
Repeated use of the word concur does NOT mean you win the argument.
I think what they should at least do, is offer downloads of extra fighters, or, let you create fighters from scratch without having to build them up.
The more you can customise the experience the better, even for people who aren't boxing fans. People who are really into games like to be able to play them to bits.

Generally there's nowhere near enough variation in chin, power and cuts.
The whole cuts thing is dumb anyway, how the fornicate can you train your ability to take cuts, soak your head in brine?
