Valuev v Levin

Well, well Sam v Cley Bey was followed by the Beast from the East.

I've only seen clips of him before on low quality downloads.

I was pretty impressed. He's obviously learnt a thing or 2 because he actually looks like a boxer now. Not a particularly good one of course but he's definitely more than a sideshow.

Levin was coming off a loss but started postively and he's a decent boxer and big so i think that shows a some ambition from his backers.

He moves like a boxer and snaps more than pushes his punches which was more than i expected. On that showing I think he can make it to true contender status (what with the state of the division).

One thing about him is that he is very very hard to hurt, at least thus far. It's near enough impossible for anyone to reach his chin with full power, and i saw him take a lot of body shots in one fight with no discernable effect.

His size is such that he is actually built differently, his skeleton is absolutely huge.

I'd love to see him fight Vitali, because I think Vitali would struggle with not having the physical advantages for once.

His head is huge, bigger than most guys bodies!

Yeah! While i was watching i was thinking "that guy's head is the size of a suitcase" and "my whole extended family could take shelter from the rain under that eyebrow ridge"

Obviously there's a chasm in class but Vitali's entire style is built on having height and reach advantages. It would be interesting to see if it all came crashing down when they disappeared or if he could somehow adjust.

Levin at 6 ft 5 was cleared flummoxed by spearing in a long jab leaning back and getting one immediately in return.

Valuev is improving in the last couple of fights. I think a lot of people assume that he is unsound because he is very tall. Some seem to think extra tall boxers cant cut it. They may have to re-adjust their views in the next couple of months.

Valuev moves pretty well, has a good jab and good stamina. When his defense is tightened up a bit and he punches with a bit more confidence and in combination, he may prove worthy of a title shot. He may be in that position after 3 fights so he may get a title shot later this year, possible against Ruiz or Brewster. He would beat them both.

He is here to stay and when you see him fight you will know that he is for real.

Shame Levin has got a poor chin, he would be a big player in the devision otherwise. Motivation has been a problem with the hun in the past, but he looked in much better shape this time.

Dissapointed with both Sam and Clay-Bey to be honest, Sam was in poor (even by his standards) looking shape and was slow, slow, slow.

How, did Danny lose to him? Oh yeah, I know all I have to do is view the Klitchsko fight and I see an even slower heavyweight.

The reason Williams lost to Samil Sam was that despite his out of shape figure Samil Sam has a sledge hammer right hand. Thats how he did it. When you have that big of a right hand and are lucky enough to land it clean its over for anybody standing in front of you. After all this is heavyweight boxing and the guys over 230lb hit very, very hard. One punch can end the fight. At any time.

As for the second knock down, I saw that fight live and I watched the tape 3 times afterward. There was no clash of heads, it was a glazing left hook underneath the chin, at close quarters, which sent Levin railing across the ring until he fell in a heap in the corner.

I dont know, but I didnt see a clash of heads at all. In fact, it is kind of hard to do that when Valuev is 213cm and Levin is 195cm. Its like saying Tua head clashed to Lewis. He would need a big ladder in the ring to pull that one off.

I think it is a pity Samil Sam comes out of shape, because if he came a bit more ripped he will have the speed to land clean his right hand and brink some exciting early koes to liven up this division. He is good material, but a bit lazy. He has a tendency to fight down to the level of his opposition, unfortunately.

Klitchsko is a lot quicker than Sam, he has fast hands for a big man.

Klitschko is much quicker on his feet and fights more dynamic. but i wouldn´t say that Sams hands are slow. his problem is that he adapts his style often on guys who are worse. On the other hand he was jailed in his last fight because of a defensive tactic by Wegener ("Langsam, Lagsam, Mach nich so viel Junge, nach Punkten hast Du ihn"). Watch the Bakhtov-fight and you can see a much more quicker Sam.

Misread me James, I meant Williams is even slower than Sam not Klitchsko. As plodding Sam was vs Clay-Bey, Williams was probably worse vs Vitali.

Sam was fatter than in the Bakhtov-fight. i hope this will change for his next fight. he did far more better last year.

Williams must be lucky to get a european title shot this year. this will be his maximum.

This was the first time I had seen any worthwhile footage of Valuev for a number of years. Like others have said his sheer physical size makes him a daughting propositition for any fighter. He was a lot less clumsy and awkward than when I last saw him so he is obviously improving and still learning. He does have some techniquie. Maybe he is a late developer? Anyone know anything about his amateur career?

I think Valuev could be a real threat to any of todays title holders including Vitali.
