Thought it was a good fight at the weekend but i didnt think wow that fight was as good as Moore - Macklin etc. Probably end up in most peoples in Womans top 5 fights of all time,

I thought the fight was quite scrappy tbh. winging em in like a pair of amateurs most of the time

I can see the social history point they are trying to make in the comparison to "The Fight" of the last century at the same venue.

Wasnt fight of the year let alone fight of the century. This is just trying to promote womens boxing. It was over 2 minute rounds ffs.

Do women run a shorter distance for the marathon? of course they dont.

I didn't watch it.

Ali v Frazier wasn't the best fight in the 20th century at MSG. "The Fight" had cultural significance, however. Boxing News are clearly (to me at least) likening this fight to that because of the weight of cultural significance it carries, in their opinion. A women's fight selling out the Garden in its own right, reported globally, and being regarded as a helluva fight is a big deal, More of a big deal than AJ v Ruiz in a historic contest, definitely.

It lost its significance by him losing it immediately to the same guy. What's more, history won't judge Joshua kindly, unless he turns over Usyk and Fury, he'll be little more than a byline. As such, Ruiz' win will be a mere blip.

I think it’s a very good cover, visually striking and obviously unusual to have the women on the front, makes a nice change. BN isn’t literally stating that it was the fight of the century.

It really wasn't the women's Frazier/Ali. It's disrespectful to all 4 fighters to suggest it.

It should stand in it's own right and not be compared to anything, but no it has to be compared to a male fight from 50 years ago - Why? Because it's simplistic to and people will lap it up with out stopping for just a second and think 'hang on a minute'

We womens boxing exists. They don’t need to shove it in our faces.
Yes it was a good fight and a great advert. But these fights are rare on womens boxing.

These two are at the top level, highest level for women.

As I said, there are probably 4-6 elite women boxers, the rest are at least a couple levels below.

Time will tell but I strongly believe this will have a major effect on woman's Boxing more than any other fight, Frazier/Ali 1 had plenty historic fights before it, this is a first, like it or lump it, it's here to stay , I'm not claiming to be a massive follower of woman's boxing, men's is hard enough to keep a handle on but as a father of 3 daughters, one of which is sporty and plays football, I'm all for it

For me the standard was regional amateur, but it was a competetive fight. 2 minute rounds and 10 round championship fights are not championship level. If the ladies want equality, then this must change.

I like the cover - it is ambiguous and provocative, no doubt deliberately so. While it says "Fight Of The Century", it doesn't say in what category - all of pro boxing? all of women's pro boxing? - and as this thread already shows, you can interpret it different ways. And if it refers only to women's pro boxing, then if you add the quality and record of the participants, location, how it was promoted, quality of the contest, and the fact it had some ebbs and flows, it probably is the fight of the century so far.

But I agree women should box three-minute rounds. In Britain I believe they already can. See https://bbbofc.com/build/documents/Rule ... s_2021.pdf for the rules: Rule 3.7 makes no distinction by gender, ditto Rule 5.3 which only relates to young boxers, and Rule 22.10, deals with title fights and says for women, title fights MAY be varied to 10 x 2 mins (i.e. the standard is 3 mins unless it is varied). So, unless I am reading the rules wrongly, the opportunity is already there for women to box, say, 12 x 3 minute rounds for the British title. Whereas the WBC's latest position is at https://wbcboxing.com/en/round-12-the-power-of-women/ , where they reiterate that they will be sticking to 2 minute rounds. So any female boxer is likely just to do 2 minutes if that is what they will end up doing at world title level.

Women have been queuing round the block at the newsagents to buy boxing news. They know their audience.

People need to remember although the depth obviously isn't there, it's in its infancy, the majority of mens fights in this country feature at least one fighter who isn't up to the standard

no matter how good the rest of the fights this year may be, this one is absolutely nailed on to win several foty awards ....and not just for women's boxing
