Where do you place Jermell Charlo in the list of all time light middleweights after his 10th round victory over Brian Castano ?
1 Thomas Hearns
2 Wilfredo Benitez
3 Mike McCallum
4 Terry Norris
5 Winky Wright

I'm not impressed by him at all on an all-time best level. If we are only talking guys who won a title at that weight, I think Sugar Ray Leonard is in the top 5 easily.

on a historical level i dont raate him high at all. defo below all the guys listed so far
his route to undisputed was also very light
tony harrison (loss in first fight)
jeison rosario (one of the worst ever unified champs)
brian castano (draw in first fight....probably most felt he lost)

I agree. Can't see him doing too well against John Mugabi who was a beast at light middle.
Ayub Kalule was underated as well...

I general don't rate jr middles but somewhere in the top 20-30. He could go up or down, his career isn't over. Needs more wins, I think.

6. Felix Trinidad
7. Wilfred Benitez
8. Oscar De La Hoya
9. Emile Griffith
10. Julio Cesar Vazquez
Laurent Boudouani, Gianfranco Rosi, Koichi Wajima, Sandro Mazzinghi, Ki-Soo Kim, and Nino Benvenuti.
Alright he probably DOES make the Top 30 looking at this, but he'd up in the 20's somewhere. I'd still put Mugabi in there over him.
Jermell's main problem is he's in a REALLY weak division, and he still struggles to beat a lot of those guys.

I think Leonard completely bypassed the 154 division.

He beat Ayub Kalule for the title in 1981.

Looking at the May 1992 issue of BI and the top 10 light middles of 30 yrs ago, Charlo doesn't even crack the top 6 in a pretty weak era.
1. Terry Norris 29-3
2. Gianfranco Rosi 53-3
3. Jorge Castro 68-3-2
4. Vinny Paz 32-5
5. Roy Jones 16-0
6. John David Jackson 24-0

Actually I'm now looking at a copy of The Ring from 1987 and get this for a top 10:
John Mugabi
Mike McCallum
Buster Drayton
Duane Thomas
Matthew Hilton
Donald Curry
Carlos Santos
Davey Moore
Julian Jackson
Mark Medal
Do you see Charlo ever topping THAT light middle division?

I think Charlo is much better than Vinny Paz ever was.
