what does sergey kovalev need to do to deserve hof induction?

saw people debating on another site whether krusher would be hof worthy if he retired today. i think he's an interesting case. i'd say he's someone i can see it both ways. at his peak he was really really good, but doesn't have a resume that makes it a lock, and also took some hard losses that you'd think most greats wouldnt take like that
what do you think he needs to do to warrant a spot, if you dont think he's earned one yet

He's also an asshole. He's not getting in on charm. He was very popular in his prime, beat the hell out of a lot of good fighters, but the image of him getting blasted in the balls by Ward is what comes to mind when you think of his career. Destroyed his tough guy image, now he's remembered as another drunk Russian clown. He might be one of those guys that takes a few years to get in. Once he retires and drinks his liver into wobbly KO condition nostalgia will kick in and he'll be remembered fondly. As long as he doesn't knock out more drunk chicks...

i think he will get to HoF in future. People will more understand what he achieved. His metodical demolitions of Jean Pascal are underrated, just like win over undefeated Anthony Yarde. Speaking of losses, those from Ward are controversial IMO, first fight can go either way and second was hugely because low blows (Ward dirty tactics were tolerated by referees for years). First real loss came from E. Alvarez, and he avenged it well right after. He also dismantled some fake prospects like Blake Caparello, Cedric Agnew, Ismail SIllakh, Cornelius White. Beating Nathan Cleverly in his home also counts.
Im not saying he should stand next to ATGs, but far worse boxers are already in HoF. Krusher should be in in future

He deserves it. He has been the man in LHW for quite a while. He defeated the biggest names available and did that in style. Dethroning Hopkins in such one-sided fashion can't be overlooked in any case. The beatdowns of Pascal were brutal. He even deserved a win in the first Ward bout, which gotta be a helluva achievement.

He was rather popular.. only one of very few who regularly had over 1m viewers on HBO.

there are guys in the hall who did less than guys not in the hall anyway

Therein lies the joke of boxing hof. Ingemarr johannson is in there so damn near every champion should be in there using him as the lowest standard (or gatti i suppose)
But the hall is perfect since boxing is such a backwards sport full of stupidity

This is why I don't think the HOF or P4P lists mean anything.
It's just a popularity contest based on objective reasoning.
Everybody will disagree and waste time arguing about it.
We need way less points of recognition and not more.
Eventually all boxers will get a participation trophy and there will be no champions.

At one point in time I previously believed that Sergey Kovalev was on the right track to become a dead-cert future Hall-of-Famer.
His resume is very decent, but not as good as other guys that have never been inducted to the Hall-of-Fame.
And his problems with the law, racist remarks, alcohol and also PED use greatly outweigh his historical contribution to the sport of boxing.
He also received rejected a guaranteed opportunity to face Adonis Stevenson, but turned it down.
Sergey Kovalev was once a fantastic fighter, but he made a lot of poor career choices that I fear have permanently scuppered any chance he has to be eventually inducted into the IBHoF.

plenty of lady beaters in the hall aint there, although maybe that's less tolerated these days
perhaps the greatest fighter of all, sugar ray robinson, was notoriously brutal to his women

Better judging as he beat Andre Ward the first time. That win puts the recently inducted HOF fame Ward over the top. Kovalev is close. Ward vs Kovalev I was close, but I had Kovalev up. Kovalev was the best light heavyweight in the world once.

If he'd "gotten' the decision I thought he deserved vs Son of God 1 then he'd be in it for sure.
That would incline me to put him in it, but agree that it's a tricky, borderline call.

Beating Pascal, twice, was pretty good - particularly the way he did it. He mullered an ancient Hopkins.
I did think he beat Ward, and if he got that decision, then I think he'd get in. Without that decision, it's doubtful.
Ancient Hopkins + the capable Pascal + a fair few other decent, but far from outstanding competition.... Not enough.

Why is Hopkins always an old man when it's convenient. This is the same crap people pull when they criticize Joe Calzaghe. Hopkins was a top LHW when he fought Kovalev. Kovalev beat every LHW he should've beaten at the time, even Ward. He's a HoF level fighter, but his legacy got ruined when he became a drunk.
