FIGHT PICKS [SEASON 2] - New 6 Month League, New Members Welcome!

Posted: 21 Jun 2022, 07:46
by Fightnight Scores
The Fight Picks league has been running for 6 months, quite successfully and has been pretty fun.
We're going to wrap up Season 1 after this next round of fights and will start a new league so that more people can join in.
Hopefully there might be people who have seen the threads and wanted to join in but were too late to the party. Now it's your chance!

The first league started with around 30 players, and in subsequent months around another 10 people have joined in. Unfortunately, people will naturally drop out. We have dwindled down to roughly 15 regular players.

Hopefully we get a good batch of sign ups!
Put your name down on the thread below if you'll be joining in week to week :box:

I'm out.

I don't get to watch a lot of fights live anymore, it is too expensive and complicated to have all these subscriptions and PPVs. So I have to wait mostly until they come on youtube. In that situation I have to stay away from results, articles, and RBR threads to avoid spoilers.
It's just the way modern boxing is trying to edge fans like me away from the sport by pricing it out of the reach of the common man. And I don't want to steal.

That’s not a reason to be out though.

You cast your vote before the fights anyway.

But I'm also not getting to see some of the fights before the next weeks picks. And overall I'm getting to see a lot less boxing as a whole, especially up and coming fighters whose fights may or may not get posted to YouTube, and because I'm not sitting down to a whole show, I might not bother to chase them up. Eventually I won't know half the younger fighters backgrounds or skills I'm already noticing a lot of names I've never seen before.
Sky used to have boxing every week, now it is twice a month if your lucky. And they are the last outlet I'm subscribed to.
I feel the sport is gradually slipping away on me.. And it's not something I want, its just to bloody draining on money and time just to get to watch fights live or close to live.

I feel for you man. It’s a shame. Every promoter is exclusive to one network.. it’s bad!

I remember in UK it was only Sky Sports you had to pay. Apart from that it was free to air.

I don't believe in stealing but I will steal a free stream from foreign countries.
The prices on these PPV fights are insane. I find them to be more criminal than illegally streaming them

Don’t know if I should post this here or the original thread.. seeing as next week is Season 2.

Next weekend we have:

• Mairis Briedis vs. Jai Opetaia

• Jason Cunningham vs. Zolani Tete

• Joe Joyce vs. Christian Hammer

• Callum Johnson vs. Igor Mikhalkin

Probably be a couple more.

I will be recycling this thread for the weekly Overall Standings update and any notices:

RULES FOR NEW PLAYERS
Each week a number of fights will be listed for you to pick a winner and a method of victory (decision or stoppage), including a round for a stoppage win.

Points awarded:
Correct winner: 5 points
Correct method: 8 points
Correct round: 10 points
Correct draw: 20 points

I will update the weekly thread at the end of each round with the points distribution spreadsheet and this thread will be updated with any notices and overall league standings.
