I got it big time and i'm really happy the right man got result.

That's actually pretty sad when you think about it.

Surprisingly, nice footwork/movement and a well timed jab is all it took. Earl just couldn't get inside.

9 fight novice, only fought before at a lower weight, 1 weeks notice. Impressive.

Good for the lad. He should rematch for the title rather than step down like he suggested in the interview. He certainly didn't look small for LW.

Anyone every heard of him before. Got any Amateur pedigree?

Is this the first time an undefeated fighter fought in a non-title fight against the British champion.

Yet another name for the Lightweights. I was impressed, a little nerves and out of range at first - but looked the part.

He looked big for the weight, even though he said it was a weight up from his norm.

Excellent win for Ricky Burns with only a weeks notice, and the right decision from Ritchie Davies (one of the best refs in britain) Burns had a similar style to Dazzo Williams.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS get in there ricky just go in just now heard the news, hes a a great wee fighter, i put a wee post up about this earlier in the week, he was a good amature in scotland and very talanted glad he showed everyone else what i already know bags of talent,

I think needs to learn on his technique offensively, very poor punch form when on the attack and thats why he has only stopped two. Other than that could be one of our brightest prospects.

All this talk of Kevin Mitchell, can you see him challenging Alex Arthur now. Burns did the lightweight equivelent, not one mention of him when we did the "Best prospect". Again, the power of TV.

Must admit i hadn't heard of this kid, when they announced Earl-Burns and Murray-whoever after the break i jacked in and went to bed thinking they would be a couple of rollover jobs Never rated Earl anyway, he always "got the job done" but was another Maloney hype job, dull to watch most of the time but no doubt there will be a rematch. Sad i missed it now

Yes a good win for Ricky Burns he should make an interesting addition to the Super-Feather/Lightweight mix.

Just hope bacause of this win he is not rushed as he still needs time to learn and develop.

Extremely impressed with this kid, especially fighting at a higher weight and short notice.

He counter punches very well and has an accurate jab and to be honest he gave Earl a boxing lessons for some of those rounds.

Obviously needs to work on areas of defence but that's natural and I like his confidence to take on the best at 135.

Also, well done to a new poster, Kelly Young who seemed to have confidence in Burns on another thread...maybe someone in the Burns camp??

nahh she aint in the camp, shes from edinbrugh and enjoys boxing shes seen ricky as an amature im sure, she will tell you herself when she comes bk on, ..

I agree with all the points about Burns, he reminded me a bit of Scott Dixon (not just cause of the Superman stuff).

I think that result also confirmed why Richie Davies is the best boxing ref out there.

It makes a change we get a decent reffing decision, top class, i 've seen Earl on a few occasions, twice vs Vanzie, and once vs Honey i have to be honest and say his career has been very fortunate in the past and caught up with him friday, He is an honest fighter, good look to the kid who won.

yiup i agree, never rated Eaqrl to be honest, though vanzie won both their meeetings and due to that never really cheered for him, not earls fault but i just hate the injustice..anyway what come round goes round even if it was a clear decision for Burns.

have to say though earl showed great sportsmanship and dignity in defeat

Earl is just not that good, has lucked out a few times himself but Burns won this by a mile, I didnt give Earl a round. Gracious in defeat though which was nice.

I had a feeling he was still going to have his hand raised at the end, nice to see Burns didnt get jobbed!!

What dose that do to Earl's fight against Kevin Bennett. Will it remain as such. The whole non title match up thing seems odd to me anyhow but if a british fighter has been beaten by another British fighter even if it is in an 8 round warm up fight you would feel the title BBBoC should do something.

burns is a superfeather and thats where he will be fighting gave away weight to earl just done it to help earl out and to get some cash but was still confident he could win, but he will defo be campaiging at superfeather

Just needs to get his chin tucked and he has a nice little career ahead of him.

I couldn't believe Burns' handlers had agreed to put him in with someone like Earl. I had seen Burns before on a couple of occasions and although I was fairly impressed with him, I didn't expect him to win this one. I'm glad I was wrong though. :)

That and his offensive work on the front foot (he punches like a....sorry.... Girl). He can do it, becuase he landed some cracking counters on the back foot. I don't know if it was excitement, but when he seemed to back up Earl, he would be throwing this wide arms shots like my sister throws.
