What’s the forums opinions on Ben Whittaker?

The olympic silver medalist appeared on sky tv yesterday and is to be trained by Sugar Hill

I will keep my opinion nice and simple … I think Whittaker is an annoying ****

Are forum members looking forward to Whittaker’s debut?

I didnt follow him as amateur… was he exceptional?

I don't know much about him, I heard him interviewed and he seems quite full of himself. Looking at his amateur record he doesn't seem to be much of a puncher, 53 wins (2 KOS). Maybe thats why they went with Sugar Hill to improve his power?

personality wise, gives me the same vibes degale did when he turned pro

i didnt like how he moaned about the judging after clearly losing the olympic final, especially as he'd already gotten the benefit of the doubt in 2 fights that could've gone either way. also found him to have a negative, slappy and disengaging style.

but too early to rag on him that much. let's see what happens in his pro career

I thought the same re: Degale. Ben’s got loads of potential and if Sugar can get him sitting down on his shots and landing with power then he could be great. If he keeps a lot of his amateur style then I think he’ll underwhelm.

Degale got booed in some of his early fights because he coasted and showboated rather than looking to end the fight. Hopefully Ben doesn’t do the same.

As a bloke I don’t dislike him but he talks like he’s a superstar so needs to back it up.

If you talk like a superstar you have to back it up.
Audley had a decent career but didn't come close to living up to his own hype, earned well though.
Hamed on the other hand did back it up.

Whittaker is a protege of Joby and the Firewalker Philosophy of movement, I believe? :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay: :yay:

Welcome to 'The Process' by Joby Clayton.

"It is written down and encompasses all my teachings," says the trainer who joined the team led by Rob McCracken, Joshua's long-term ally, a year ago.

"I use it for someone coming into the gym for the first time and for elite athletes. I use it at the start of every session for mental warm-ups. It is all of my learnings from the past 30 years.

"What interested AJ from my teachings was when I spoke about grace and rhythm. Wild animals move in an incredibly graceful way whether they are the hunter or being hunted - their movements are efficient for their very survival, there is no flair.

"I look to develop this grace within an individual, starting with how to breathe efficiently, then becoming aware of their body and how to generate relaxation.

"Breath work is an untapped avenue in sport and life. It affects the energy of the mind."

at the very least if his boxing career fails, he should be able to get by stalking rabbits and other small game. Maybe take his act to Africa and hunt the big boys :yay:

I cant get over his lack of extra effort in the final round of Olympics and then having the audacity to act like he had been robbed. I dnt think he will make any waves as a pro

I think he will look a million dollars until he gets to a level where his lack of power will see him come up a short. Where that level is I don’t know but I think the kid is very skilful

He's got some skillz for sure, I'd be surprised if he's crap.

Especially if he can breathe like a graceful wild predator or prey...

Seems like lack of power is going to be his undoing.

I get the impression he recognises that though and has made a good move to Sugar as his trainer. Fury was a back foot boxer with seemingly little one punch power (compared to the other top heavy’s) before he started working with Sugar.

100% agree. Said the same on Twitter the other day. Big early vibes. A lot of similarities. Remember DeGale was booed his first few pro fights? I was at the one in Belfast. Think Birmingham fans were giving him stick the previous fight as well.

Unless you're a hardcore fan it is who ? Olympians are like buses, another one comes along in a minute or 2

She’s a belter tbh and I like the gravelly deep emotionless voice.

Not seen anything of this bloke apart from him losing the Olympics final.

Is he a new Frankie Funtime? He's gonna need some pop in his punches and a proper engine or he'll get eaten up by the hard men of the division.

Word.

Ben might be meeting decent Northern Ireland born Aussie Conor Wallace 17(12)-1.

He avenged his only loss (MD over 10) with a 6th round KO.
