Does anyone know what he is up to nowadays.
I know he packed his gym in in 2007.

Had a great conveyer belt of journeymen at his gym in Aston, Birmingham.

Former doorman who later worked at the fruit and veg market in Brum.

I asked him once what do I do to warm up, and he told me to go and stand against the radiator

He done my corner a few times, once while applying grease to my face, he told me to close my eyes, then kissed me!!

bloody hell !!!

Nobby used to make me howl with laughter…

He continually wound up some of Hennessy’s fighters saying he fancied them.

“Go on lads leave me on my own with them”

I am sure Lee Meager was scared of him.

Afterwards he said that he he would have stuck his tongue in but I wasn't his type! I should have twigged when Pete Buckley and Tony Hanna started giggling when he told me to shut my eyes!

He had the tax man after him, could have got away with it if he had said what boxer had earned what, but he took the whole rap himself and went underground.

Boxing is definitely a poorer place without Nobby Nobs

The tax man ? oh dear. no chance nobby could have remembered all the purses. his fighters used to be on shows every week.

Nobody around like him now. How he used to be at work at 4am, do a days graft, then drive to shows all over Britain and sometimes go straight to work again takes some doing !!!

I believe he started out by setting up Rum Runner ABC in the 70s. Named after the nightclub where he worked ?

No walk in the park for Buckley either....Paul Halpin was an aggressive, compact pressure fighter.

The likes of Coleman and Buckley often fought about 20 times a year but nearly always against genuine prospects, and then the odd dinner show in an even match which tended to be a war.

It seems nowadays there are a lot more ticket sellers who finance the small hall shows but aren't dangerous fighters. Therefore there are more journeyman, maybe fighting over 30 times a year in fights which don't take much out of you.

Journeyman from the 90's look at the records of Buckley and Miguel Matthews, their resumes were the who's who of boxing at the time. And they went the distance with almost all.

Now and then I have a flick at the records of modern day journeyman who have got to a hundred in a short time without a name on the record, and if there was the odd British champ they would have been stopped.

Nobby is an underrated trainer who had some good lads in his time, such as Glen and Garfield McEwan, Lloyd Hibbert, Des Gwilliam, Johnny Burns and Billy Baggott, who read a copy of the Birmingham Mail between rounds in his fight with Lloyd Gardner at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall back in 1976. The Board was not amused.

I hope it was good issue. Baggott bailed out of boxing before his disciplinary hearing in London. He then boxed unlicensed.

One of Nobby's favourite tricks was to squirt the water bottle over the ring card girls as they went past during the minute's break
