Manny Pacquiao announces he will take on YouTube star in exhibition fight

Pacquiao, 43, retired from boxing last year after losing out on the welterweight title but will return to the ring this December for an exhibition fight with YouTuber DK Yoo

Boxing legend Manny Pacquiao will return to the ring in December to face Korean YouTuber DK Yoo in an exhibition fight.

Pacquiao, who won world titles in eight weight classes during his career, announced his retirement from boxing last September after two and a half decades in the ring. The Filipino missed out on the welterweight title against Yordenis Ugas in his last fight, the same belt he won two years prior against Keith Thurman.

Yoo practices his own form of martial arts called 'Welfare Training Systems'. The system covers disciplines such as aikido, savate and kung fu, but its legitimacy has been questioned by critics. In an attempt to defend his credentials, Yoo took on former UFC middleweight Bradley Scott in a pay-per-view boxing event last December.

Scott, who had a 20kg weight advantage in the fight, manhandled Yoo and was the clear winner despite no official verdict being announced after six rounds. Luckily for Yoo, he will have a size advantage over Pacquiao in the fight being dubbed "boxer vs meditator".

Yoo announced the fight by saying: "I am going to fight against one of the best boxers in the world. I'm telling you right now, who's going to be my next opponent. I'm going to fight against Manny Pacquiao." The ring legend then replied to Yoo by stating: “DK Yoo, see you in the special event this coming December. God Bless and be safe.” The pair recently met in General Santos to sign contracts for the fight.

Pacquiao, who is regarded as one of the best boxers of all time, retired from the sport to focus on his presidential run in the Philippines. He came third in this year's elections after receiving over 3.5million votes. Before his fight with Yoo was announced, Pacquiao was linked to exhibition clashes against longtime rival Floyd Mayweather and British star Amir Khan.

Mayweather, who outpointed Pacquiao seven years ago in the 'Fight of the Century', has made millions from taking part in exhibition fights since finishing his professional career with a record of 50-0. 'Money' last fought against former sparring partner Don Moore in May and boasted about earning $100million from his clash with Logan Paul before that.

Pacquiao's 21-year-old son Emmanuel recently came up short in his efforts to match the early success of his father. He lost his unbeaten status in just his fourth fight amateur fight after being outpointed by Chris Smith in San Fransisco.

https://www.fite.tv/watch/manny-pacquia ... ser/2pc4r/

Watch the Manny Pacquiao vs. DK Yoo press conference live on FITE October 13th at 9 PM ET / 6 PM PT

The hologram event will mark the first time Proto hologram technology will be used in a combat sports event, allowing the PacMan to see and hear Yoo and the media, and respond naturally, in real-time, just as if he was in the room.

“When you’re presenting a Manny Pacquiao fight you don’t mess around, even when time and distance don’t cooperate,” said Michael Weber, COO of FITE. “Our CMO, Kim Hurwitz, pitched this idea and we loved it. We decided it was time to call on Proto for a high-tech solution to let Manny be literally in two places at once. The PacMan vs. DK Yoo fight which will officially be a Triller Fight Club event on FITE, is going to be such an epic match – even its press conference will be making history.”

The press conference will stream live from the Los Angeles studios of Proto, the startup which has been in the news for beaming executives, artists and athletes all over the world. Sean Gibbons on Pacquiao’s next appearance in the ring
“It’ll be December 10th in Seoul, South Korea, and basically what Manny’s doing is raising money for his foundation to build houses, gonna be some donation to the Ukraine for the effort there and the people. So this is like a six, two-minute round exhibition with a guy named DK Yoo who’s in his field, karate, is a legendary guy. So it’s boxing, there’s no kicking or anything, but he likes to test his skills against world class guys.

“Manny’s a little like Floyd. He still feels like he’s got a lot to give and he still wants to fight and do things, so I think these exhibitions are wonderful for fighters like Floyd, fighters like Manny. Me, as a fan, I want to see Manny, I want to be around Manny. I miss the days of going up to Griffith Park and 200 people, and 100 people at the house, and 80 at the gym. You just never see that again so you hate to let it go.”

On if there’s a chance Pacquiao fights professionally again
“All that he said was that he wants to see what happens Dec. 10, wants a test run to see how he feels — because he’s training like this is Mike Tyson, he’s not training just like he’s doing an exhibition.”

"Manny’s a little like Floyd" ?

Pacquiao is a modern day oddity.

One of the very few who are actually prepared to share their wealth in order to benefit their fellow human beings.

Others make unfulfilled promises, some seem to enjoy basking in the glow of the publicity gained by empty virtue signaling, some go as far as demonstrating solidarity with those less fortunate than they are but stop short at sharing their vast fortunes.

Good for Manny Pacquiao.

This has a nice ring to it 'the boxer vs the meditator'.
My money is on the boxer.

Pacquiao Toys With Yoo in Exhibition Fight, Leaves Door Open For 2023 Comeback

Former eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao, 44-years-old, returned to the ring on Sunday in an exhibition match at the KINTEX arena in Goyang, which is near Seoul, Korea.

It was Pacquiao's first in-ring fight since retiring last year in the aftermath of his twelve round decision loss to Yordenis Ugas.

Once retiring from the sport, the Filipino star had worked very hard in his campaign to become the President of the Philippines, but ultimately failed.

Pacquiao took the exhibition with South Korean YouTuber DK Yoo to raise money for Ukraine in their ongoing conflict with Russia, and also to provide funds for homeless Filipinos.

During the fight, he basically toyed with Yoo in a contest that consisted of six two-minute rounds.

Yoo, who is regarded in South Korea as a skilled in martial artist, had a big size advantage that proved worthless in the fight.

Pacquiao easily claimed a unanimous decision, as Yoo was very tired after a few rounds. Yoo was knocked down several times, but for whatever reason the referee disregarded several of the knockdowns and tabbed them as slips.

In the final two rounds, it appeared Pacquiao was starting to take the fight more seriously and was trying to knock Yoo out. The Korean star barely survived the onslaught. It seemed as if the referee had given him every possible opening to survive until the final bell.

After the fight, Pacquiao left the door open with respect to an actual comeback in 2023, by telling a ringside reporter - "You'll see" - with respect to a ring return.

"[The fight with Yoo was a] very good stepping stone to come back. This is a great opportunity to come back in the ring. I thought it was easy to retire... I really missed boxing. I felt lonely when I retired from boxing," Pacquiao said.

Pacquiao would also be willing to face Floyd Mayweather in a high-profile exhibition fight. Mayweather, who decisioned Pacquiao in 2015, has taken part in several exhibition fights - including three in 2022.

"I don't know [if he'll accept an exhibition with me], I don't have an idea because that guy always changes his decision," Pacquiao said.

Maybe it's his way of mocking 'em as p*ssies.

Like "Hell I'm 45 years old and I'd still fight both of you guys who won't even fight each other"

I think at least some of us can agree with that. Hell, Spence is doing the exact same thing to Boots and V Ortiz that he hates Thurman for now. And Crawford? Honestly Manny would fit right in with his legacy name building.

Yeh they don’t change anything.

They treat future stars just how they were treated.

Need to break that cycle.

Manny looked sharp. The bout was entertaining.

They should set up Mayweather-Pacqiou for a 10 round exhibition.

It'd be a better bout this time around.
