Saudi Sportwashing and Ali

Ramla Ali, the woman boxer, says those who accuse Saudi Arabia of sportwashing are only doing so because they don't like woman's boxing (?!?) and describes the country as "very progressive".

Yesterday, a saudi woman who returned home on holiday was condemned to 34 years in jail for posting about women's rights on Twitter.
Is Ramla Ali the stupidest person in boxing, or just the most willing to spout propaganda to help her own career?

In boxing there isn't much opportunity and less money, when you get an opportunity you gotta take it.
In reality what difference to the world would it make if she turned the fight down.

How do you do modelling and boxing at the same time? It doesn't compute, broken noses so easily in boxing

I think it's them trying to justify their broken morals to themselves rather than anyone else. Everyone has a price and the Saudi's are finding those prices. I think the Saudi's found that most governments and businessmen were probably cheaper per $1 of profit than these athletes though.

Never heard any controversy when anyone was watching the Russian cards and we all know what a corrupt nation they are, Saudis are scummy as is pretty much every nation in the middle East (leaders/dictators), people need to concentrate on getting these Tory pudenda out of our government before getting our knickers in a twist about any other nation
Any idea where the Saudis get their arms from btw??

She cannot express herself openly about some matters, fearing for her well-being.
That claim of Saudi Arabia progressing because it barely has let some people breath yesterday (last state ever to grant women voting rights), is totally laughable.

When I saw the thread title, I thought it was going to be a comparison between the Saudi show and the Rumble In The Jungle, with Mobutu’s goons allegedly killing political prisoners in the cells under the stadium while Ali and Foreman boxed, with the crowd noise drowning out the screams.
