Dennis Hogan v Sam Eggington date confirmed as Kildare man fights for IBO world light middleweight title

Dennis Hogan will face England's Sam Eggington for the IBO world light middleweight title in Australia on October 8.

The Kildare native, who is based Down Under, takes on defending champion Eggington in Newcastle, New South Wales.

Australian promotion No Limit Boxing outbid Ben Shalom of Boxxer to stage the world fight on home soil for Hogan.

The 37-year-old previously lost world title fights to Jack Culcay in 2015 and Jaime Munguia and Jermall Charlo in 2019 before suffering another defeat against Tim Tszyu (not a world title fight) early last year.

But the 'Hurricane' has beaten Australian fighters Tommy Browne and Wade Ryan since then and is confident his long-time dream can come true against Eggington.

He told foxsports.com.au.: “I’ve done all the hard work in terms of what needs to be done. I’ve done it all. I’ve been there and I’ve done it well for the most part.

“This time, I get to stay here and focus on my training while he’s got to travel. I’m feeling really good about that.

“If I was to fight him anywhere, I would still feel confident. But just knowing that I get to have that, it’s another box ticked for me.”

Hopefully Sky Sports pick this up.

Nikita Tszyu will return on this card.

Not many. It’s probably at least a grand just for the flight to Sydney and then it’s a couple of hours drive away. The flight is something like 28 hours with changes so it’d be one long and expensive trip.

Hopefully the promoter is friendly and will pay for a few flights for Sam’s inner circle.

Surprisingly Sam will have a little crowd there.Hes got an uncle who lives in sydney hes orderd about 40 tickets and hes meeting up with ex brummie jimmy reynolds who lives there and who sez a lot of ex pats want to go and watch

Good stuff, Jon. Hope the trip goes well. I think Sam will stop him in the last quarter of the fight, and will need to, as the away fighter.

hogan is a very good boxer he has just always missed out against the champions tho i thought he beat mungia , i ve been following hogan since i first joined this site he fought Jose Miguel Rodriguez Berrio then he fought for a world title and lost to Jack Culcay.dennis came back few fights later beat Jimmy 'Kilrain' Kelly who himself put up a good fight against mungia, then fought jamie mungia i thought hogan won ,ko by charlleo and tsyzu great fight against a warrior himself in sam who has domestic fighters like skette, foot,and frankie gavin to cheeseman ,Theophane to
fighters who been in with the best liam smith to world champs Malignaggi, really good fight , i expect hogan to take it to sam from the off, sam might give it a couple of rds then we have a showdown

I like the main event and quite a solid card. Don't know yet if I can watch it.
