Ukraine advances in the war

Post by conan_the_cribber »

The news over the last 24 hours is very promising for Ukraine. They've broken Russian lines and have retaken 1000km2 of land in the East. (50 km deep, 20 km wide). Even Russian leaders in the field have confirmed this. Probably due to some severely demoralized troupes who are tired of being cannon fodder for Putin and his oligarchs.

I don't think this is the starting domino, but I do think it's going to put a whole lot of internal pressure on Putin, who will be forced to try and blame the military, which in turn, will make the troupes even more disillusioned. Could get nastier in Russian, already been a few mysterious deaths of oligarchs and their families.

I don't think they've got the capabilities to do it. And I think they would've done it by now, if they had. The thing that I (and others) are afraid of, is that they sabotage nuclear plants on their way out, or even, just do not enable the nuclear power plants to be properly administrated and maintained, so that a catastrophe happens.

Um, right then. My bad. I guess the shown in the clips is really the Hamburgler and you know better. Or are you being super-duper pedantic because the guy in fatigues is "only" the head of the occupation for the Kharkiv region. One thing for sure right now, is that Russian TV is not going to be talking to actual Russian soldiers asking how their day was.

My biggest fear is that if pushed too much, that maniac Putin will use battlefield nukes. Then it's WWIII for sure.

I can imagine scenarios where that happens. A massive hissy-fit, unable to deal with the fact that his troupes couldn't win in Ukraine, he nukes Kiev and then tries to spin it as a pre-emptive nuclear strike ahead of Ukraine's attempt to nuke Moscow. One can only hope that the human element along the chain of command stops him doing it.

I read today that some Russian leaders were arrested in a alleged plot against Putin.

Russian police arrested five people who proposed officials arrest and charge Vladimir Putin with treason for his decision to launch the invasion of Ukraine, which has led to catastrophic outcomes for Russia and its interests.

"The fact that several municipal deputies in St. Petersburg, Putin’s hometown, came forward accusing [him] of treason and calling for his removal is highly significant," Rebekah Koffler, a former DIA intelligence officer and author of "Putin’s Playbook," told Fox News Digital.

"They know the punishment will be severe. They can easily face a death sentence based on Russian federal law. The significance of this act of defiance and dissent by a handful of Russian officials cannot be possibly overstated."

That is a glimmer of hope indeed.

I dunno about defeat. There was some press given about his health but it was quickly refuted. I'm pretty sure, when the dman bursts it will be very abrupt, not a slow leak. One day we'll wake up with headlines like "Medvedev seizes control" or "Military has ousted Putin" or something shocking like that. I don't think we'll be seeing a week-long debate in parliament and a vote of no-confidence and a gracious blame-accepting resignation speech from Putin. The guy is going out on his back, with a bullet in his head, or landing in a cell, then being sentenced to death.

Unless he wins in Ukraine. Which is looking very unlikely.

I didn't think the sarcasm was warranted, hence my answer. Apart from like one week in the last six months where there was a focus on Putin's health, there really has been no questioning at all in the Western media as to whether Putin is losing his grip on power. Now, if that was a weekly topic and speculation, constantly headlining, then yeah, the sarcasm would be perfect. But that simply hasn't been the case.

Whatever, my comment stands. Like Trump, Putin will not have a peaceful transition of power.

Yeah wishful thinking but plenty of it. The western media’s coverage is horrendously biased in their reporting.

They were at one stage speculating on his health. Then it was losses. Then it was losses of generals. Then it was back to his health

His disease is psychopathy! He is an evil man through and through just like Kim Jong-Un and Bashar Al-Assad.

More reports coming in of Ukraine making ground. Conflicting messages coming from Russian media. On the one side they're claiming it's an orderly withdrawal and part of a handover to the new Donesk Republic on the other hand messages are coming out to evacuate and local officials are describing the breakthrough as serious.

And then of course, there's pictures of Ukrainian generals in front of the town halls of reclaimed towns.

Whether Ukraine can sustain the advances is another question. But I'm sure that it's made Russia aware, that they are not solely in a war of attrition.

But then if the Ukranians recapture an abandoned village it's big news and the war is almost won, then when the Russians take over regions it's not even mentioned.
