Valdez's by SD in a good fight which shows Marvin he still has a way to go before overcoming that hurdle.

I'm sure if the decision went against him, Hagler would again show his class and say the better man won.

Really good matchup. In 1977 I'd take Valdes by UD. Prime on Prime, I might take Hagler but IMO Hagler wasn't yet prime in 1977

I thought the same. However, they might fight to a draw in 1977, but the prime Hagler would dominate prime Valdes behind his southpaw jabs, combinations and right hooks to either take a decision or late round stoppage.

Going into 1977, Marvin Hagler was not yet the finished product, and his best opps had been Sugar Ray Seales and Willie Monroe, he also had not fought past 12rds. All the toughness would be there for Marvin, but I think Rodrigo Valdes would pull out a close decision in the championship rds and win by around 2 pts, mainly on the basis of experience.
